This year my son-in-law got his hunting license and his PAL. I purchased his first 22, his first hunting rifle (Tikka 308) and his first shotgun ( REM 870 along with a rifled barrel and scope). Had a local gunsmith custom fit both stocks for his frame. I took him out to learn how to shoot at a friends property and watched how his eyes lit up as he put into practice what he had learned from watching hours of YouTube videos. I setup a bear hunt for us this spring n Haliburton area with an outfitter where we could drive up in the afternoon for the hunt and then he could drive back home to help with his children. On our 4th time out a nice sow came out to the bait, and we watched making sure she didn’t have any Cubs. He slowly lifted his rifle, lined up his shot and put her down. Although the outfitter would have field dressed her he wanted to do it ( he has been watching MEAT Eater ) so we gutted her and dragged her a couple hundred yards to my vehicle and took her to the outfitter. They finished skinning her and took her to a butcher for us to pick up a week later. He took home the liver and heart and cooked it up that evening. Both he and my daughter loved it and when they got the meat from the butcher my daughter rendered all the fat and is using it for numerous things plus they are canning some of the meat. Watching him pull the trigger on his first hunt is better then any hunt / kill I have done. Something about sharing the moment with family that creates a memory and experience that will last forever

Good to read your having a good time.

you know I either solo hunted or hunted with my dad but he passed about 10 years ago, I will sometimes share a camp with my brother but we both solo hunt.

I'm getting older now (doc reminds me every year) and I have done a few hunts with some younger guys that are still learning, I don't do any of the shooting, and let them do most of the work. Sometimes its hard having to explain everything your doing and why.

I still solo hunt when I want to get things done.
