I won't say I'm finished with this project, but at least I've got the Central sight and the nameless foresight installed. You can see I had to modify a standard sight base to accept the sight base for the foresight, so after I'd taken the base down to pretty much a ring, the local machine shop turned it down to fit inside the foresight base:
It all went together quite well, the only difficulty was getting the sight band pin back in place, but some careful file work cured that. The tunnel sight is meant for that base, and both came of my .308 when I went to F-class. I should point out that the larger base is made of very lightweight aluminum.
Here's the other end, with the Central No4. plate and it's matching sight. I used a spirit level to get the plate and sight perpendicular to the receiver. It took some careful fiddling with the bushing on the bottom of the plate, but I've eliminated "cant" as best I can:
I'm waiting on some headspace gauges, and hope to have it out soon. I've already loaded up my first ladder test: starting at 38.0gr of Varget and going to 41.9. I'm using new Win brass, CCI BR2 primers, and SMK 174gr HPBT.
