At long last joined the m305 crew, Update, Pics and issues.

My bad, really doesn't matter though.

this is where the dictionary comes in handy for the folks confusing the words Sustenance and Subsitsence.

people who live in the far north or other remote places, be they indigenous or otherwise, and live a lifestyle primarily supported by what they harvest off the land.... are hunting and gathering the essentials for life..... this is called Subsistence Harvesting (hunting /fishing/ cutting trees for firewood or building, gathering of plants and mushrooms ect ect)

people who reside in the more developed regions of the province and "choose" to hunt and fish and gather to offset their food costs are Sustenance Harvesters.
You can't just go hunting and kill the animal on your tag and walk away..... the law states you must retrieve it for processing as FOOD. And what is Food? Food is Sustenance.

so it IS pretty damn clear the difference between Subsistence, which is necessary for life..... and Sustenance which is merely to hunt or gather for food. You are permitted to hunt or fish for sustenance in BC with either a BC Resident Hunting License or a BC Angling license. The Federal Government issues the tidal fishing license and again..... fish are to be consumed as Sustenance and no wantonly wasted.

anyhow, like Machman stated, if you have a hunting license and tags for an open season, you should be able to use your now prohib , formerly Non Restricted firearm until the amnesty is up.
I am primarily a Coyote and Wolf hunter now and there is no closed season in my region so will have my M14 or my stag-10 along for my back country cruises at all times.
I sure as heck ain't gonna eat them for sustenance but I'll be hunting for them just the same hehehe

If you hold a valid Hunting license in this country and consume the meat you are hunting for, you are the definition of a Sustenance hunter

Yes I agree. The OIC specifically states "for the purposes of sustenance". It seems to be their intent to allow us to continue using our rifles for the time being to harvest animals.
But there's also that little check box on your PAL application form for sustenance hunters if you "hunt to sustain yourself or your family". The wording is vague at best. Honestly I don't think the people who wrote it themselves know the difference between subsistence and sustenance.
If you've qualified as a sustenance hunter for your PAL (meaning you did not have to pay the fee), I would not fear about taking out the now prohibited rifles as the RCMP officially designated you a sustenance hunter. If you didn't... well take your chances. Come this fall, surely there'll be a few court cases of people hunting with now prohibited rifles.

The government seems to regard subsistence hunting as getting meat on the table strictly from hunting.

In contrast, sustenance hunting means you're still hunting for your meat but also supplementing from other sources (e.g purchasing). They seem to use the term sustenance to provide the hunter a little leeway.

I don't think the government meant it to apply to your typical hunter who buys most of his or her food and hunts more for sport/recreation.

By that logic nobody is a subsistence hunter. Everybody's got the option to move to the city and get food from the food bank. Nobody HAS to get their food from the wilderness. At this point it's like trying to disprove religion.
The logical definition is someone who hunts for food is a sustenance hunter. Somebody that only eats what they hunt or gather, is a subsistence hunter.
Unless you checked that sustenance hunter box on your PAL application, it's up to the legal system or possibly jury to decide if you were hunting for sustenance. Like everything else in the OIC, it lacks clear definition.

are you sure that little check box said SUSTENANCE ? or did it say SUBSISTENCE ? two very different things.
The OIC language states that over a million canadians hunt .... I think it said 1.3million?
I'm gonna go way out on a short limb and say that is pertaining to non indigenous hunters.

If you eat the meat you hunt, you are by definition a Sustenance Hunter.
I don't understand why so may people are confused by this.

if you are a hunter, you can still use your non restricted/now prohib for the purpose of hunting during the amnesty
if you aren't a hunter , your firearm is expected by King Justine , to be safely locked away in your safe until his royal knights arrive to sieze it from you in 2 years time LOL

I 100% agree with T's assessment. Get out there and use your "previously non-restricted" M14 style rifle and carry your hunting license.

Doh!

Maybe this part of The Order was written by two fellas, neither of whom completed a Senior English course.
They probably can use the word 'exaggerate' in a sentence, but when they try to sound really intelligent, they write
'exacerbate' instead.

But, seriously, folks; what if a dude is a guide who requires a rifle when he takes gorbies out on their moose hunts. The rifle is just one of the tools of his trade; he's just out there trying to make a living in order to put food on his family table. So what's he doing? Is he sustaining, or is he subsisting?
And don't exacerbate....

Maybe 'Brownells'? 'Midway'?

Just on the EE. I paid $90 with shipping if I recall correctly. First I bought what I thought was a Garand sight but turned out it was from an M1A. I sold that one and I got the Garand sight. What a difference! Just felt heavier and of much nicer quality imo. No slop and very nice clicks on the adjustments compared to the M1A. The norc sight was junk.

Sure, I got a nice M1 (Garand) rear sight from Brownells about five years ago, but they don't appear to be in the mood for selling stuff beyond the borders of the USA any more. Must be something to do with The Trump Wall.
