I need to renew my two year ATC. I assume that I have to pay another $80.

Do I have to re-qualify or will they re-new me as is?

I currently have my G17 on my ATC. Will they include it on my new ATC?

Should I try to add my NP-29 or will that endanger my G17?

Thanks for any help.

9MM as ATC? Pfftttt get your something manlier like a 454 Casul!

End of useless advice.

Guns on my current ATC:

Ruger Super Redhawk .454 Casull
Llama Comanche .357 Magnum
SW model 12 Airweight .38 Special
GLOCK 17 9mm

An added benefit is the protection should a handgun ban by the federal Lieberals actually go through in the future, the ATC could provide legal grounds to retain your handguns.

Get as many of your handguns as possible onto your ATC's.

If your current ATC just expired I'm guessing the last time you had your G17 approved for the ATC was two years ago. Since then they will only issue an ATC for wheelguns, no automatics. Also you will need to re-qualify with all the guns you plan on getting permitted, and yes you will also have to pay the $80 again. Get it in soon, mine just took 4 months to get processed.

What do you mean by "re qualify" is there a shooting exam?
I'd like to get an ATC for Ontario for when I log in the bush, however it is not my main source of employment so I highly doubt I would be accepted :(

It expires Nov 08 but yes my previous application was 2006. I'm going to try for as many of my centrefire handguns that qualify power wise for ATC carry. I read about Camp Cook's problems getting his G20 on his ATC but I hoped that since I already have a current ATC with the G17 on it, if I re-newed I could keep it on the new 2 year ATC.

Why and how do you have an ATC for all those firearms??

As a professional geologist I qualify and I applied.

I have ATC's (or whatever they used to call them) on and off since the late 80's.

I always put as many reasonably powered centrefire handguns onto my ATC application as possible. I don't need the power and weight of the SRH in the winter when the bears are sleeping (and every ounce of weight matters when you're going all day on snowshoes off trail).

One of my former non-gun carrying geo buddies was treed by a black bear for four hours. Even my snubnosed Airweight model 12 .38 Special could have settled that 2 foot range encounter in a lot less than 4 hours. ;)

If the Federal Lieberals ever do get a handgun ban passed , ATC's may be a way to retain some of our handguns. Think about it.

Try. It's your right. According to the law, as long as the activity is employment related and you cannot carry a long gun you qualify.

It's only $40 to apply.

Question... Let's say an ATC application is successful, based on an employment need for it. Now the ATC holder is carrying the firearm in the backcountry one day, but not while doing work. He/she is simply hiking, but clearly out there and still needing protection. Does the ATC permit this?
