Hey, how does the glass on the ares etr compare to the nightforce nxs. I own a nightforce and I know the clairty of it just looking to see if it's close to equal. Also the click on the turret are they softer than the nxs or more audible?

Any info appreciated.

I have owned 3 NF NXS and have an ETR, and the Nightforce wins in both area significantly. Not that there is anything wrong with the Athlon, but you get what you pay for in the NF.

If you prefer Japanese manf, have a look at the Athlon Cronus BTR and Delta Stryker HD. These compared very well to a S&B high power in side by side testing towards 1 mile.

It has been a while since I did the side by side but sample NF NXS compared to the Sightron SIII of the day. If NF has started adding ED glass to their NXS lineup, I cannot say. I know that NF ED glassed scopes can have a wonderful view but didn't think the NXS ever got these lenses????

the Athlon Cronus, Delta both run Japanese ED glass from the largest Japanese manf which I assume still makes the NF NXS.

The Athlon Ares ETR uses Chinese made ED glass. This is a fantastic first product. A hint behind the Japanese ED glass but for a huge discount. For well under $2k, I really haven't seen anything that can compare at distance with the Ares ETR in this price range.

As far as turret feel, I prefer the Ares ETR feel over the Japanese cousins (note I am a dealer for both Athlon and Delta so can choose whatever I prefer). Very clear clicks, very tactile. Tracking on the Ares ETR scopes have been absolutely deadly. I have now tested 5 on centerfire towards 1900yds... and rimfire towards 450yds. And I am in contact with others who are reporting very positive results with their Ares ETR's

Very impressive when you have the confidence to dial up 16.4mils and put a center hit on a target at distance.

I have 3 Ares ETR currently sitting on my competition rifles and these scopes have made it to several podiums so far this season. Love the new reticle, layout and features. Perfect, of course not... but I am unaware of anything similar at this price range.

YMMV

Dont know.... haven't looked through a USO scope in over 10 yrs.

For simple reference, if you have a S&B PMII family of tactical scopes or a Tangent Theta, the glass is tangibly better vs most everything else (at least to my eyes at LR). Then depending on your eyes, you can debate till the cows come home about ED glass from various Euro, US and Japanese brands. All of this stuff is grouped as Alpha lenses and priced accordingly.

Then you get to the Ares ETR... plenty good for the vast majority of viewing but there is a slight resolution drop vs the Alpha glass. And this is looking at very fine detail from 1000yds out towards 2000yds... and yes, there are a few tests I do that reach way beyond those distances.

So depending on your eyes and how you will use the scope, there are pros and cons to all the above. What we definitely have is a massive difference in pricing.... but if you have the money no object budget, then you pick the exact product that suits you.

Any of these scopes is going to let you engage any typical target without issue. It is the subtleties in resolution, colour and mirage that you simply have to get behind the scope to understand...and appreciate.

Then decide what you prefer....

All great scopes...
