Any experience on these two scopes?, the Razor 3-18 is a little bit pricey for me, so narrowing my options to Athlon Midas Tac 3-18/15 or the Ares ETR 3-18, most of the shooting will be done bench max of 200 yards and regularly 50-100 yards. Entertaining the idea of joining PRS style if the body permits, “the mind is willing but the body is week”, lol, so aside from the illumination of the ETR , is there any significant difference between the 2 Athlons?, obviously haven’t handled both in person, Not really in a rush, the XRS chassis I’ve ordered is back ordered for 8-12 weeks. On the side, was looking at the Vortex Strike Eagle and Venom but both are 5-25 which maybe too much for my application, there is also the PST2 4-16?, thanks

I don't see a 3-18 midas tac. Their website lists a 4-16; is that the one you mean?
I have an Ares BTR gen1 2.5-15 and I just picked up a used Ares ETR 4.5-30. No experience with the specific models you've mentioned, but fairly similar stuff from Athlon. I also don't compete but I do some prs style target shooting with my 22.
The ETR is a bit better in pretty much everything compares to the Midas tac. Better glass, better magnification range, illumination, 34mm tube (which the higher mag Midas offers, but not the 4-16), slightly more elevation adjustment, etc.
My Ares BTR has similarities to the Midas tac (glass, 30mm tube). I like that scope a lot and it would be great on a rimfire. I wouldn't feel handicapped by it at all. The ETR, though, is just better. They're quite different price points that reflect the difference in features and quality.

I have 2 midas tacs and an ares etr. I don't have the magnification range you are interested in, but I don't believe you can go wrong with either. I prefer the reticle thickness on the midas tacs vs the Ares. I find the ares a bit too thick for my liking, but that's probably because it's illuminated. I'm also not sold on the price difference between the TAC and ares. The Ares is nice, just not sure it's $6-700 nicer
For your usage you listed, 200 yards max, I think the midas TAC will get the job done for you. I have mild buyers remorse on my etr. I'm sure it will fade with more time behind it but the midas TAC is good to go. I've taken one of them out to 1400M and it has tracked without issue. Best save your money and get the Midas.
I have several ares and just sold my Midas. I am not a competition shooter at all but ran out of elevation and windage on my Midas. If you go that route most certainly get at least a 20 MOA rail. If you never shoot past 200 you will be fine but you may have remorse if you ever go to 300 or more. Buy once, cry once and make this your last scope.
