I see that Athlon has made a clone of the Garmin Chrono. It is cheaper but is it a case of you get what you pay for ? Is the Athlon a decent product ?

Any of you folks give it a good going over ?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

I'd like to try the Athlon, Don @ Rimfire SS on youtube seemed to like it. But I didnt look for any other reviews yet, I'd want to see how well it works for centerfire ammo first.

Although the Garmin Zero is an awesome chronograph and works very well, it would appear the Athlon Rangecraft Chronograph will be a huge contender. :)

It's $200.00 less money, reset time is faster than Garmin, the tripod is metal not plastic like the Garmin, and the reviews are excellent across the board. In addition, the Athlon has a real nice carry type case.

I have researched this new chronograph to the enth degree, it absolutely is an amazing product. All the reviews I have seen are positive.

Now would I sell my Garmin for the Athlon? No! However, if I was in the market for a new or another chronograph, I'll be buying a Athlon Rangecraft Model! :D

I recently got the Athlon and did try it with rimfire and with my hunting bow and it seemed to get every shot from both. It's a small sample size but it seemed quick and was pretty much idiot-proof to operate. I've not used the Garmin so can't compare the two.

I watched a comparison review on youtube and it seemed that the Athlon was consistently a bit faster than the Garmin in velocity, anywhere from about 10 to 25 fps while recording the same shot. Which one is more accurate for velocity who knows but for my purposes this isn't a big deal.

In the reviews down south they are saying the Athlon is half the price.... hard to argue with that.

Not sure if that includes any chinese tarrifs, but in Canada it looks like the price is around $585.

I replaced my Labradar with a Athlon unit. I like it, works great with 204 Ruger that the labradar wouldn't pick up. 22lr is no issue with the Athlon. I did use a buddies Garmin, works fine but is more money and the Athlon has a better tripod and a nice carry case.
I'm happy with the Athlon.

I have a Garmin and I love it. Compared to the Labradar and the Magnetospeed, it’s like night and day. Mine hasn’t dropped or missed a single shot from pellet rifle , rimfire or centerfire. That’s in many thousands of rounds! If the Athlon is comparable at a couple hundred less, well!!!

I've been looking into both. I wonder if the competition will drive down the price point on either? I have had access a few times to the Garmin for $600, but haven't pulled the trigger so to speak. When it's on sale like that for the same price as the Athlon, it's a toss up, but as noted, the Athlon seems to be the winner on accessories in the box

I wonder what used big orange Labradar's will be selling for now?
When the Garmin's came out I saw some pretty good prices on the big orange Labradar's.

Anyone try the newer LX LabRadar that also sells for around $800?
