I currently own a Mossberg 500 8 Shot Persuader and I am contemplating the purchase of an ATI Heatshield .
I'm wondering with anyone here has experience with such a product as I'm concerned whether I will run into an compatibility issues as my shotgun has an increased magazine. Moreover do these products actually function well as a heatsink or is it more for aesthetics? I'd save myself the trouble if it was the latter.

Thanks

ATI is bleh, and heat shields were intended to protect one's forward hand from a hot barrel when using an attached bayonette.

Folks who roll the gun over to reload seem to like them too.

They look mean but seem to be a PITA otherwise.

As one who has burned his hand on more than one occasion on a hot day shooting the 12guage, heat shields are always welcome in my home.

I installed one on my 590 A1 SPX with the thicker barrel. Took some fitting and alot of tightening at the front, but it stays put and does the job.

I haven't noticed any excessive heat on the heat shield enough to burn my hand, same with the one on my 930 SPX. No issues so far rolling the gun over euro style.

Are there any other brands of heatshields you guys could recommend? I cant seem to find a Mossberg one anywhere.

I have the ATI heat shield installed on my 8 shot maverick 88. Looks cool but it doesn't work very well. After about 6 shots it manages to slide its way half way up the barrel . Unless I want to permanently glue the thing to my barrel there is no way of attaching it to my shotgun. I live in BC, and I bring my Mossy with me fishing in the rain, and it rusted pretty good after a few trips. Looks cool for gun ####, but not a very functional product..

I thought you could only order the Mossberg heatshields from a Mossberg dealer?.

Made more sense for me to get the ATI one.

I had the same issue, but I tightened the retaining bolts at the front down really well now it stays put.

I loaned it out to a friend at an event last year that I put together in a video:

Each time you see a Blue polo working a pump action, that is Steve using my Mossy 590A1 SPX with the ATI heatshield. It does not move when tightened down alot (and doesn't look that terrible either)

X2 on that - it never stays in place and poor construction - which is surprising given the warranty.
