So I recently bought a Remington 870 Express Tactical (non-ghost ring version). I got the 4 shot version as I've got a 28" barrel on the way for interchangeability with the intention of getting a 2 shot extension.
Yesterday I picked up an ATI 2 shot extension (non-fluted version). I got it installed (yes, the dimples have been taken care of) however about 90% of the time I can only get 5 rounds into the tube. In doing some experimentation with the barrel on and off I've learned that with the barrel on that the 1-piece design of the ATI model doesn't allow for the extension to screw all the way down before tightening the barrel on. This results in a gap of larger diameter between the stock mag tube and the extension tube. The mag follower is getting jammed in this gap (I can see it happening through the hole I drilled to get rid of the dimples) which is preventing the loading of the last round, making my 6+1 gun actually a 5+1 90% of the time.
While I have found others online with this problem (it seems to be a 1-piece vs 2-piece extension problem rather than an ATI or 870 problem), it doesn't seem rampant as I'd expect it to be leading me to think that there's an easy fix.
Trying to return the ATI tube may be difficult as my experiments with the barrel off allowed me to screw the tube all the way down onto the stock mag which resulted in nice, clean, 6 shot loading... and contact between the tri-rail of my Archangel fore end and the ATI tube that left some light scratch marks on the knurled end of the tube.
Any suggestions before I look at the multitude of after-market followers that have mixed reports and may or may not improve anything?
