I just purchased a 91/30 that was already altered by Westrifle in Canada with a bent bolt. I already have a few (91/30, M44 and M38) tucked away all original condition and they will stay that way. This is going to be my project shooting gun (sorry to the purists). The old eyes aren't that great and I like a scope on my rifles with some good magnification. I do plan on leaving it in original wood, sling, etc.
When I hunt we travel long distance to stands on ATV so I need a solid mount and I enjoy shooting from the bench long ranges.
I don't want to go with a scout (LER) mounting systems and since the gun has already been altered I will be drilling and taping it if required (sorry again purists). If I could get into a PU mount and rings that takes 1" tube and I can use my traditional eye relief rifle scope that would be great. I am new to this and find the military mosin issued mounts confusing.
I want to mount a 3x9x40mm on my Mosin 91/30. From what I have been reading there is mixed reviews on how sturdy the ATI bases are. If anyone else has a scope mounted on a 91/30 what system are you using and how successful has it been?
There is an awesome mount sold in the US but they will not ship outside the country called Rock Solid Industries Scopes Mounts. It looks like a great mount and is exactly what I need. Being Canadian guess it is out of the question. Oh well.
Any suggestions and guidance would be greatly appreciated.
