Hello Everybody,
Thought I should put my views on the ATI stock (#RUG2200) which I installed on my Mini-14 -how stupid of me to do that because it already had a factory synthetic stock.
Anyways, to start with I ordered mine from Brownell's, as expected the parcel went through US customs & CBSA. By the time parcel was delivered it has been opened & re-opened several times. The packaging inside was torn apart and all the parts & screws were mixed up (I wonder at the intelligence of the custom officialls who insted of opening the zip lock bag from the zipper side ripped it opened from the other end-what he do to his woman is anybody's guess).
Now, continuing with the stock itself it was time to put it together. First it took a while to figure out the all the parts & numerous tiny screws -the installation instructions are not well explanatory- however, once you figure out the mystery about all the tiny screws its not hard to start putting them together. For some unexplained reason mine came with the stainless steel insert already installed but, the hold screws were striped therefore couldn't be tightened. I used some Permanent Thread Locker to stop them from slipping inside the holes.
Some of the nut/bolts to install the supplied picatinny rails were missing. I intended to install only one top rail so didn't bothered about other missing nut bolts. Next, to my horor I found the screws on pistol grip were stripped too. I fixed them with filling some epoxy into the screw holes & tightening the screws on it. Let it bond permanently for a day.
Finally put everything together only to find that the front sight is not visible once the top rail is installed. My Ruger is a newer model with serial no 581. Thought of trying the drop tube adaptor (supplied) but the screw/bolt is missing from the package. I'll get a bolt & a nut to fix the adaptor to buttstock tube, then will see if front sight is clear with top rail on.
Comments on overall quality & satisfaction:
With too many tiny screws to hold on several parts it would be a miracle if the stock holds together under severe shooting conditions.
There's no metal re-enforcement or inserts to hold on the screws which tightens directly into the synthetic material.
The pistol grip should be screwed on to the stock like AR 15 style instead of with 2 tiny thin screws.
The Picatinny Rails are all plastic and not metal -as it should be- therefore losing the required strength to hold any optical sight.
Overall quality: It looks like a wonderful bubba job, putting all the tiny screws & several cheap plastic parts togehter. Not worth the dollars you pay. Especially, if you already have factory synthetic stock.
Will I ever recommend this stock to anybody. NO. Not, unless you are looking for 'tacticool' factor only.
Satisfaction factor: will let you guys know once I try it on range.
Thanks & happy shooting.
