Had my new #5 Jungle carbine out to the range on Saturday, first time shooting it. No matter what loads I was using- federal commercial (Too effin hot, bad idea), or 174gr/38grIMR4895, shooting at 100yds with the leaf sight set at 200yds, I was about 14-16" high. In other words, aiming at the top of the mound was just getting me on paper. The windage was ridiculous too, but I'll deal with that later. Somebody's obviously messed with it at some point, I can't see this leaving the armoury like this. The front blade has 06 stamped on it, which sizes should I be looking at, and where's the best source? Or am I missing something obvious? (the groups are ok)

I found both my No4's shoot low with factory.

It improved with re-loads but I also got a new fronsight and filed it down to where get right on the sweet spot.

You can also raise you rear sight too... :)

To correct a drop of 14-16" by filling your front sight you'll need to shave your front sight by 0.105. (drop sight by 0.015" for every 2")

You'll probably want to get a second and third opinion on this before you do anything.

Releive any high spots in the forward areas of the stock, free float the barrel.... No5 rifles are bad for that.

I'm not sure if JC's have the spacer sleeve on the front action screw, but assuming they do, make sure it is there.
You need to raise the front sight to lower the POI.
I have this archived from some one else's post:

Elevation

All adjustments are made to the front sight beginning with elevation, because to correct up or down the front sight may have to be replaced with a different height. It makes no sense to get your windage on, only to have to replace the front sight to correct for elevation.

Zeroing at 25 yards, using the micrometer sight set for 200 yards, the Mean Point of Impact (MPI) should be 3/4 of an inch (plus or minus 1/2 inch) above the point of aim (POA).

Zeroing at 100 yards the MPI should be 3 inches above the POA.

Remember there are nine sizes of foresight available, each being .015 of an inch different in height. Each change of foresight to the next size, up or down, will change the MPI, up or down, 1/2 inch at 25 yards and 2 inches at 100 yards.

To correct high impact, replace front sight with a taller one, to correct low impact use shorter blade.

Examples:
Using a rifle fitted with a .0 front sight and firing from 100 yards, it produces a five round group 4 inches above the center of the bullseye. Then replacing the sight with a .030 blade will drop the MPI 4 inches, or

Using a rifle fitted with a .075 front sight and firing from 25 yards, it produces a five round group 1 inch below the center of the bullseye, then replacing the front sight with a .045 blade sight will raise the MPI 1 inch.

If your rifle is shooting below the point of aim, raise the rear sight until it is shooting where you want. Observe how much the sight has moved. This will tell you what front sight correction is going to be needed. For windage, the front sight will have to be shifted laterally. If you want to move the group to the right, shift the sight to the left.
