I am curious to hear what you folks have to say about the Smith and wesson M&P15T versus the ATRS brand of products. I Have been shooting since i was a kid (Semi auto pistols/revolvers/bolt actions and quite a few .22's) But I have never shot an AR. I know the basic parts, and how to use them, but I'm not sure if I have the know how of building a custom one with ATRS parts, compared to buying the M&P15.
And If any of you have comments between the M&P sport and the Tactical (or other variation, I'd love to hear them!)
Thanks,
Ryan

Any specific reason why you're limiting yourself to those two choices?

There are many others in that price range that would serve just as well or better. For instance, you can get Daniel Defense carbines for around $1500, and I'd choose one of those over an ATRS as a general purpose carbine any day. There is also Stag Arms from Arms East, that have entry level carbines for around $1300.

Also, AFAIK the only S&W M&P 15 rifles I've seen up here is their M&P15i (export compliant) model w/ fixed stock (the importer includes a carbine stock, buffer tube and carbine buffer), non-threaded barrel and carry handle.

If I was in the market for an AR right now, I'd probably get a DD M4 V5 Carbine, .223 Rem, from Wolverine Supplies (no shill :p)

Stag 2T, The DD already mentioned is another interesting option and the LMT MRP is another good option.

The two options the OP mentioned wouldn't be my first choices.
