Hi Guys,

This posting is not meant to offend AT-15 Pistol Mags owners or ATRS.

I just want to ask if the AT-15 Pistol Magazine has an official Legal Ruling as the one with Questar's LAR-15 Pistol Magazine ?
https://shopquestar.com/shopping65/shopcontent.asp?type=Mag%20Ruling

Reason for me asking is that we all know that RCMP Officers have very little knowledge of the gun laws/rules .... this thread as an example -> http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/976651-Lar15-help-asap!!!

they can easily say that the AT-15 Pistol Magazine is prohibited without any legal ruling like the Questar LAR-15 mags. They can easily make your life miserable and make a big deal about the AT-15 Pistol Mag.

I always have a copy of the Questar Legal Ruling in my range bag all the time for those "Just in Case" situations with the RCMP.

.... and yes I want to get a few of those AT-15 mags as well.

Any info is much appreciated

Thanks

The legal ruling for the LAR-15 magazines doesn't declare them to be ok for Canadian sale & distribution, it declares that their use in any firearm other than a "pistol, commonly available in Canada" is unregulated.

The RCMP subsequently released special bulletin no 72 to clarify all the cloudy areas of magazine capacity regulation:

http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cfp-pcaf/bulletins/bus-ent/20110323-72-eng.htm

Section 4 specifically addresses your concern.

The AT-15 magazines are pistol magazines for a pistol commonly available in Canada. At a 10 round capacity they are unregulated items. You will see no declaration that they are not prohibited, just as you will see no declaration that cooking bacon in your underwear is not prohibited.

The RCMP is not in the business of telling you what you can do, only what you can't.

The firearms, for which the various 10 round magazines were manufactured for, are restricted. Does this mean one can legally use the 10 round magazine in a different firearm, only at a range?

One has no relation to the other. You can legally use AT-15 and LAR-15 magazines in firearms other than what they were manufactured for anywhere it is ok for you to discharge the said firearms, including non-restricted rifles such as a Tavor for example.

Jager's post explains it very clearly, so does the RCMP Bulletin 72.

Yes, actually. But this being discussed continually is a good thing. It educates newbs, and the experienced alike. There are some who would like to close this "loophole", as the opposition call it. The more people exercising this law that allows us to use these mags, the better. We need numbers on our side too.

Interesting excerpt from RCMP bulletin 72.

Example 2*: The Ruger BX-25 magazine, chambered for 22 LR calibre, is designed and manufactured for use in the Ruger SR22 rifle, the 10/22 family of rifles/carbines and the 22 Charger handgun. As a result, this magazine is a prohibited device unless modified so its capacity is 10 cartridges or less. (*This information was not included in the original version of this bulletin, but was added on 2013-09-05.)

Talk about an unworkable law. Since Ruger as the manufacturer "announced" the magazine will fit the Charger pistol, it's prohibited. Any other manufacture who does not do this can make a gazillion round magazine for the 10/22 without problem.

PS don't ask me where to get a gazillion round magazine, the loading time is a killer (due to old age setting in).

That's true, but if they changed the law nobody would fight it anyways and 99% of Canadians would be good little sheep and go hand them in got destruction. I wish there was a backbone in Canadians and we would fight for our rights.

Just want to say, ATRS has confirmed that the new batch, which should be arriving sometime towards the end of the month, are at least +20% cooler to own, and will make you operate +15% harder. Plus certain manufacturing problems have been fixed, such as the cutout on the back of the mag that was giving people grief.

Factionrr, contact ATRS, they will resolve your "problem" with the mags. As for the "problems" of posting such on a public forum, thus risking losing such fun toys, well, that should be self correcting.

Thanks fenceline, sorry it's been a rough day with lawyers and such so I'm venting. I will take my mag issue up with ATRS.

Cheers

That's not me. And it doesn't have to be anyone else either. Not only my rights, but I have my future generations rights to fight for. Don't you all out there as well?
