ATRS Modern Sporter SPR?

Hey guys,

Just wondering any of you build the MS SPR?

I currently have a MRA barrel on it, maybe the Guardian series, thinking to switch out some of the parts to build a SPR/DMR-ish rifle.
Any suggestion on the barrel? BSF, Proof or order a SPR profile barrel from ATRS? Should I bought a different BCG(I am using brownells lightweight BCG)? It that possible to push the 556/223 to 0.5 MOA at 100 meter?

OR I should stop thinking about it? ...

I don't want to go up to 224 or 6.5 yet since plinking cost is too hight for that round...
 
Its totally possible to get .5 moa at 100 with the right parts. I have a ballistic advantage 20 inch dmr profile barrel on my modern sporter and I'm getting sub moa results with a 1-6 strike eagle. Higher magnification optics will make a bigger difference in group size than a lot of things. Nothing wrong with ibi barrels and that's what MRA uses.

Things to consider if you want to shoot flys at 100
Higher power scope
A good trigger not a milspec one
A good bipod
A good butt stock that allows the rifle to track
Good ammunition is the biggest thing
Maybe start reloading if you dont already
Load development is key. Cant just throw rou ds together willy nilly and expect them to shoot.

Once you start down this rabbit hole it's hard to stop. There is a million and 1 ways to make a semi auto shoot better. Lots of people dont like clamp on gas blocks but in my opinion they are better for accuracy than set screw gas blocks as they dont introduce any stress into the barrel like a set screw will even with how minute it may be. A tuned gas system will also help and so does extending the dwell time before the casing gets ejected. You want the bullet to leave the muzzle before the bcg starts to unlock. A heavier bcg and adjustable gas systems helps with this. Also a longer gas system. As soon as that bullet passes the gas port the ejection cycle begins. It's a very deep rabbit hole. Try not to get lost

Your welcome. I was out yesterday shooting my Ms and I was doing 1.25-1.75" groups at 300 meters with 68gr bthp with 23.5 gr varget out of a ballistic advantage barrel. The recoil is so mild that I was watching my vapor trails and spotting my own shots with ease.

I didn’t measure my group when I at the range, but roughly 2-3 moa with cheap 55gr bulk ammo I believe. My friend throw the target away...

I just ordered bunch of new part from ATRS to rebuild the MS. Not sure what to do my the current upper now lol. I will update more info once the build is completed. Guess I’m going to start reload as well.
 
Learn to hand load before you start replacing expensive parts is the best advice I can give and without going too far down the brass prep rabbit hole(neck turning etc) you should see big improvements. With mixed brass and a small base size die I can hold <.5 moa with 69 sierra's and a 6 power scope off Caldwell bags with a Rainier ultra match spr barrel, which isn't cheap but certainly wont break the bank.
