Hi guys,

Saw the recent discussion about the Raven uppers wearing faster than normal. I only shot my MS once and I have a wear spot at the back of the upper receiver, probably from charging handle. I know the ARTS MS is hard anodized, is this normal wearing of parts, maybe tight tolerances? I cleaned and lubed it before shooting. Should I worry?

Sounds like someone is using fear and BS tactics.

? Just asking about my MS, I don't have a Raven, but heard they were wearing out faster due to being cerakoted. My MS is type 5 hard anodized, so I was assuming this was not normal, some of my AR's have this wear point but not to the same exten and with thousands of rounds down the pipe.

Looks like you're pulling up on the charging handle to me.

I'll also mention, wearing off the dye is not the same as wearing through the anodizing. At least to the best of my understanding, the dye remains practically just on the surface, like 20 microns or something, meanwhile the anodizing penetrates a few thou.
I only send parts out for anodizing, I don't do the anodizing, so I defer to the experts.

Thanks for chimming in Shaun. I haven't operated it differently from my AR's, I don't feel like I am pulling up. Also some wear on the latch itself. The surface feels smooth to the touch, so I guess I should not worry about it?

I didn't mean you were like 'yarding it up' but different optic setups sometimes create unique ways in which a rifle will show wear marks. I'm not worried about it from that picture, if you DO have further concerns you are always welcome to send us more detailed photos and info to info@albertatacticalrifle.com

I'm wondering what is type 5 anodized? I'm aware of 3 different types, and a few different classes i.e Mil-A-8625. Most 'hard anodize' calls for a Type 3 (Sulfuric - Hard) Class 2 (Black). Also, what is the anodize sealed with? Nickel Acetate? The seal on the anodize is just as important as the anodic layer itself as it will close the pores and improve wear and lubricity (tribology).
