ATRS - Part out my Colt HBar or build from scratch

I've purchased a ATRS Modern Sporter upper/lower (yet to be delivered) and am trying to decide what's next. I have a 1990 Colt AR-15 Sportster H-Bar that maybe has 75 rounds through it. I could move all the parts over the the ATRS receivers or just build it up from scratch.

If I build the ATRS from the H-Bar, then if the boogies man comes knocking, I can hand them a serial# matching lower and be done with it. On the other hand, I can build the ATRS from scratch and if need be in the future, still disassemble the H-Bar and turn in the lower.

What I don't know is how good the Colt H-Bar really is. I bought it new but never really started shooting until recently for a large host of reasons and therefore one AR is not much different than another based on limited experience. Would you keep it together and build the ATRS or is the H-Bar a so-so rifle and therefore just part it out?

Nothing wrong with that Colt. A great base to build from. I’m not a huge fan of HBARs so I’d personally be inclined to swap the barrel for something lighter but it really depends on what you plan on doing with it.

A2 upper?
 
Yup, nothing wrong with your Colt. It will make a fine donor for the MS build IF that is the type of build you want your MS to be.

This one started it's life as a Stag Arms rifle and everything swapped over without issue. I know it's much happier living life on the MS receiver :) It's also an hbar barrel. Sure it would be nice if it was lighter but it doesn't bother me.

I wanted to do the same with my c7a2 but ended up building two atrs from the scratch! That being said i will sell one in order to build a a2 clone :p
 
Thanks for all the feedback. Is the colt considered 'classic'? Part of me would like to keep it together and IF a day comes when I have limited options, then I would turn in the lower receiver. Which means, perhaps time to start looking for parts for the ATRS.

IF that's the case, suggestions for parts? I won't be shooting it competitively; if legal it will mostly see the range but also would be a "bug-out" option firearm. I would not want to spend more than 2K, perhaps a little less. Durability would be the primary focus.
 
I would build the atrs with the parts and have the lower registered as receiver only so that is all you will lose in a prohibition/buy back
 
Where the #### do you guys come up with this garbage? The receiver is the firearm. The rest are all uncontrolled parts, regardless of what’s on the registration.
