Lets say I'm in Quebekistan and I have a buddy in Bantario.

How would it be possible for one or the other to meet up at the other's shooting range and bring his guns along?

I know there is a concept of "invitation" but I understand this is regarding competition only (is it?)

Is that something possible at all?

You and your buddy need to carefully read your ATTs and see if this would be allowed. STATTs are issued for special occasions.
You would have to call your CFO to get one. Ask. Competitions are an established justification. Perhaps an invitation from a friend to shoot recreationally at his club as his guest would be accepted.

No acceptable reason why an invitation from a friend would not be acceptable. Just call and the get ATT, may need a letter from your friend stating the date and time of the invite, and to what range, but that should be it.
