I just received my PAL/RPAL and I also have a gun range membership. Im still shopping for a handgun/rifle. I have some questions regarding ATT just in case I buy a handgun first.

1.) If buying locally do I need an ATT first before I can get a handgun and bring the said handgun home?

2.) If the answer to the first one is yes does this mean I can actually apply for an LTATT without even buying any firearms and just get them added when I finally get one? (Should I just apply for one now?)

3.) How long does LTATT application normally take? I'm in sask, Im sure it depends from CFO to CFO I'm just trying to see how long it takes on average.

Thanks in advance.

1) You will be issued a STATT (short term) to get the gun from the shop to home, regardless if you have a LTATT or not.

2) A LTATT will blanket any R rated firearms registered in your name, so apply and get one coming.

3) It took 5 mins on the phone to get my LTATT. Was in my mail box about a week after applying. (AB)

In Saskatchewan they have started listing registration numbers on the LTATT as to what it covers. It is no longer a blanket LTATT to cover everything.

every time you buy a new restricted it gets updated.

You can not apply and get one coming till they have a gun to link it to.

Found out the info for this one first hand. So for those first time buyers from saskatchewan. We have an awesome CFO.

Bought a pistol from someone in Ontario. After starting the transfer process through phone and giving me the reference number. Called CFP 1800 number to complete the transfer monday 9a.m., received a call from the sask CFO in 2 hours asking me for my range membership. So I scanned my ticket and sent it after 15 mins. Another hour after I received another e-mail transfer authorized, and my LTATT so I can take my new toy to the range. Awesome.

I just moved back to Sask last year after being away for too long. Glad to know we have a wonderful CFO and good to see some prairie boys and from Regina as well. Hope to see some of you all out at Condie one day. And at the indoor to play with our restricteds

All the best boys.

I had a similar experience, purchased a handgun on a Saturday and on Monday before 10 AM I had my approval and LTATT. The biggest delay was shipping my purchase to me as I bought in Regina and live in Estevan.
