Do you have to be a member of a range to get an ATT? Ive been given conflicting answers and dont know which one is the real one.

I want to purchase a gun from target in gromley and they will take care of the att to take the gun home. however id want a att to take it to them but they have 2 options. 700$ yearly membership or 40 bucks per visit. i dont see myself visiting more than 10 times a year so i think the 700 would be a waste for me.
they told me i need a full membership in order to get an att, others have told me that i dont and they are just telling me that cause im a noob

also am i only allowed to take the gun to the range i specify on the application or all ranges in ontario good? i apologize for the stupid questions and hopefully i could get some straight forward answers

thanks :dancingbanana:

Thanks.

Another question, to purchase a gun i only need a RPAL and att to take the gun home? No need for a club membership until i want an att to take it out of my house? Is this correct? thanks

When you call to complete the transfer the CFO will ask you if you are a "Collector or "target shooter" You are not registered as a collector so you have to say target shooting ,then they will ask you for the name of the club you belong to. So find a club that you think you will join and use that when they ask. You are out of luck here in Ontario getting any ATT if you don't belong to a club.
Even if you are a member of a club they have to send a request in for a ATT for you.The CFO expects you to ask your club to do this and will not do anything until they get a request from a club. Then they will only send the ATT to the person at the club that handles the ATT's and not directly to you.
Some will say you don't need to but the crap and cost you would have to go through to argue that point (the CFO does this purposely of course) you are better off just joining a club.
There are lots of clubs near Toronto that would be happy to have a new member. I just went through this on the phone with the CFO. There is nothing wrong with calling and asking for yourself. Considering they deal with this crap all week long they still seem happy and friendly enough to answer all your questions.

Thanks.

In Ontario the CFO will only issue you an ATT if you are a member of a club in good standing.

The club actually applies for the ATT on your behalf, and will only do this once you are a full member who has done a club level safety course, as well as probationary shoots.(how many depends on club)

This will depend on the wording on your ATT, but most I have seen specify any approved range. So you could visit other clubs with the same ATT, and most will check to see you have an ATT before issueing a day pass.

You might consider joining Silverdale if you are in the GTA. It is just in between Hamilton and St. Cartharines, and not too far from Toronto.

Membership is $225 and that would also give you the ATT to go to Target assuming they will give you day passes.

The CFO will give you Short Term Temporary ATT's to go out to Target but you would have to call ahead, and the CFO would have to confirm with Target sports that they are allowing you to come on a day pass. They will then give you permission to transport the gun for that day only.

Currently a member here "Shalimar" is n the process of challenging all this BS, and is demanding that the CFO issues him a Long Term ATT for all ranges that offer day passes, so he can go shoot on a day pass anytime he wants without having to jump through hoops every time for a Short Term Temporary ATT.

You might want to PM him. He can give you all the details. He's a pretty good guy.

Thanks.

That is correct.

Have fun, and welcome to the BS that is owning a restricted firearm in Ontario!

Thanks for the quick replies. I will most likely join Silverdale since target is 700 a year vs 200 and change at silverdale.

I just purchased my first handgun today and cant wait to take it to the range, well after i get the att that is

Congrats , I just started again after 15years .I bought my first of three guns March 25/11 and I am still waiting for both the gun and LTATT to show up. I hope your wait is not as long.

You will enjoy Silverdale!

The people are great and the range is awesome.

You will need to buy a rifle and shotgun to make use of all the other fun things to do there as well.

Let me know when your all set up, I practically live there. LOL
