Attaching a flash hider on a barrel threaded for a suppressor + DMR build questions

Looking for advice on how to attach a flash suppressor or compensator to this barrel. It looks like the end of the barrel was threaded for a suppressor and the flash suppressor the rifle came with doesn't fit (threaded for a barrel that's much larger). Is there any way I can attach something to the end of this barrel or am I pretty much out of luck/would need a new barrel?

General questions.
A friend and I are doing a DMR 'fun build'.

1. What kind of optic would you suggest? It's got an 18" barrel (I was towards some kind of 6x scope)

2. What kind of paint can I use to paint a plastic STR style butt stock? When I painted rifles previously I didn't care and just blasted spray paint on but I'd like this to be a little more professional looking. Is there a special kind of paint for plastic that coats better? Something that doesn't chip easy? I'm thinking of spray painting a black stock OD green.

3. Is there an attachment for attaching a harris bipod to a 1913 rail?

Thanks

It looks like a standard 1/2x28 thread to me. Why not just get the correct flash hider. Personally, I'd get a muzzle brake instead. Krylon Fusion paint is made for plastic. You can buy it at Crappy Tire.

First of all there are no "suppressor threads" they are simply threads or threading on the muzzle of the firearm. The thread pitch between the barrel and the flash hider you have in the pic appear to be different. My bet is that the barrel is threaded 1/2"x28 and likely chambered in .223 or some other .2xx calibre. The flash hider looks to be a 5/8"x24 thread pitch which is more akin to .308 or other .3xx calibre rifles. The external threads I cannot even guess as to what thread pitch they are. To answer your first question, you can seek out thread adaptors that convert one pitch to another. It is simply another piece of the puzzle that allows mixing and matching indifferent thread pitched barrels and their attachments.

As for your general questions.

1. Optic selection is a personal choice and can be based solely on preference, need, desire, price, practicality or none of the above. The optic should fit your role for the gun/optic combo, not anyone else's. To avoid wasting time and money on optics that you don't like and/or don't fit the role, I suggest you do your homework and do a lot fo research before settling on something.

2.There is plastic specific paint from Krylon that should adhere a lot better than the standard stuff. There are also other "bake on" styles of permanent paint like duracoat or cerakote.

3. Yes there is, a great one is made by American Defense Manufacturing. Have a look at Arms East, Wolverine Supplies, or Calgary Shooting Centre to name a few of the site sponsors that carry ADM.

If ya wanna spray plastic, get a can of good automotive adhesion promoter and spray the plastic first, then plastic spray paint over that.
I've used it dozens of times on plastic and it works excellent

Thanks for the feedback, I'll track down some of thst paint.

Flash hider doesn't fit on a 5/8"x24, threads are still too large for it. Strange stuff.

I completely agree with this answer. It looks like you have a standard muzzle device thread on your barrel for 5.56 calibre or equivalent, and your device is a standard 7.62 calibre or equivalent (to be brief). EDIT: Seeing post above, equivalent could be for an M14, yes.
