So I bought a front hood for my RC 98k. And now I have to try and get it on. I have some pictures here, and I have absolutely no idea how to do it, apart from forcing it on with a hammer, which will be rather damaging to both the gun and the sight, methinks. I was under the impression all sights for the 98k were the same. My gun is a Stery 660, 1939 made. I say this, because I have a nagging suspicion the hood I bought is for a late war make possibly, as it doesn't look like it'd go on very easily to me.

Here's a bunch of pictures.

Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Is this the correct sight? If so, how should I go about getting that sucker in there? I'm under the impression I'm supposed to line it up with the grooves on the tail end, and smack it in that way, but I'm really hoping it's not, because I know that would make a mess of the finish, the sight, and possibly the gun itself.

The problem seems that there are no grooves on the side of the base for the rounded open end to slide into.

PS Where did you buy the sight hood from as my Karabiner is missing it also.

Early war rifle did not have sight hoods, later rifles that have them have a grove on the base to hold the sight hood in place.

My bSw 1937 has the earlier no-groove sight base as well.
I could use one for my BCD 43 though, where'd you come accross yours?

I use reversible snap ring pliers to expand the K98 front sight to put it on or to take it off.

However, you have no grooves on your front sight base, and the sight hood will not work with your rifle.

Now you are gonna have to buy a late war K98 for that sight hood to attach to.... :D :dancingbanana:
