IDPA has announced an addendum to the current rule book. These changes are effective Auig. 1, 2010. The addendum may be found here:

In addition provisional rules for IDPA Defensive Multi Gun have been posted. These are effective immediately. After a provisional period the rules will be re-evaluated and a set of final rules will be drawn up. The rules maybe found here:

Great info C44. With the rules going into immediate effect, no wonder during a practice 2 weeks ago, our IDPA club guru, Ken, set up a 3-gun scenario. A .357 S&W Performance Center (thanks to Kim) plus a Benelli M4 (thanks to Bruce from Alberta) were graciously made available for everyone to shoot.
My wife will really be upset if I ever have thoughts of getting an M4 (what a sweet shooter!!!). Solution : got a minty used Win. Defender from the EE last week - and she still doesn't know. The money explanation will be one thing but another gun??? That will require extra creativity on my part. Its time to shoot DMG scenarios. Happy shooting!!!:canadaFlag::shotgun:
 
but still not addressing the issue of factory 38 special not making power factor for those us who do not reload, meaning expensive 357 at a 195 power factor while everyone else is shooting 125. (American Eagle .357 158gr SP)
 
Well, for the most part the addendum is good. I thought the PF in SSR was going to be addressed, but I guess not.

I have a couple minor concerns....particularly applying the 3/4" dowel rule to the magazine carriers as well....I always thought those tests unfairly penalized skinny people, and based on the design on mag pouches, I'm not sure how this violation could be corrected.

The chrono procedures for bullet weight also caught my eye...I'm not sure how many people scale their projectiles, but to base an FTDR on one bullet may be extreme, thougha 3 gr allowance is pretty reasonable....I wouldn't expect to see this issue come up at too many sanctioned matches though.

I am glad to see things that were previously only available in 'clarifications' actually make it into the rule book. Things like using a window as cover, and more clarification on the modifications as it pertains to factory 'features'


In regards to the MG rules....not sure I'm a fan. Be interesting to see how a match lays out, but I won't be running off to any soon....Other higher round count MG matches have more to offer IMO.

I agree, no need for multi gun in IDPA, and it would have been nice to see the ridiculous weight rules about guns with full dust covers changed to allow a gun like the CZ97 in CDP without having to cut 1/2" off of the dust cover or the SP01 in ESP without adding over priced parts and wacky looking grips.

frankly i don't think your going to see to much IDPA MG in canada, the rules seem kind of long and the multiple classifications would make things to complicated.... maybe at bigger US matches.

i agree with your assesment of the 3/4" rule and skinny people, especially as it applies to speed loaders in revolvers.

I would have also liked to have seen such issues as moving the springfield XD back into SSP and a rulingon the soft touch recoil spring setup in the STI ranger II's.

I agree and I am sure many others do as well. Maybe if we all email IDPA or contact IDPA headquarters in some way with our concerns they might be addressed? Pipedream?

I agree, and with the influx of guns coming with full length dust covers now adays (with or without lightmount) the rule needs to be addressed.

Yep.

I just can't wrap my head around the IDPA multi-gun concept..all your mag pouches have to be concealed? Really, who walks around with 2 pistol mags, 2 rifle mags and 6 rounds of shot on their hip underneath a shirt or vest? Just in case they get in a gun fight and a spare shotgun and rifle are lying around? The only way this would make sense is by limiting the stages to one long and maybe a pistol. Having someone clear a stage with a rifle, pistol and shotgun with 28 rounds is so far disconnected from reality that it just doesn't make sense.

Even in the states, where a long gun in the car can be common, I would still bet its extremely rare to see someone have a self-defense scenario with 3 guns....Anyone who is preparing for that isn't going to limit their spare rifle ammo to 2 mags, or limit their spare shotgun ammo to 6 rounds.

I also see some CDN exemptions coming our way. Since a rifle only stage can have up to 18 rounds, but many semi-auto rifle mags are limited to 5.

I also wonder about some of the specific rules as well...like no slugs on steel? I've shot slugs in steel dozens of times without problems...steel is facing toward ground, there's safe deflection, safe distance...I can't see what the problem is.


IMO, 3 gun matches are meant to be fun events with lots of shooting in interesting stages....trying to assimilate that with the IDPA guiding principles and rules just doesn't make sense. Really, about the only rule in the MG rule book that does make any sense is the requirement for cover.

Me too, did someone ask IDPA HQ to put out a rule book on multi-gun shooting....or was it just because people were borrowing some parts of the IDPA rules for 3 gun matches?
 
I notice they pretty much turfed shotgun mag tube extensions by limiting magazine capacities to 5+1. Add to that that mag fed shotguns are a No-No.

Using Buckshot on paper targets and counting holes? Sound like a great time waster for scoring...

For extra Magazines, Only 2 on belt and your pockets for rifles (No drop bags, vests, etc...) and a max of 12 shotgun shells total according to the rules.
Shotgun shells on the shooter’s person are to be limited to 6 shells plus the 6 shells in the gun.

Personally I want to shoot stages that have the following stuff :p
Often we hear of match designers who like to make their courses or stages unusual to the point that they appear silly. Some of these are simple modifications of cowboy match stages that require contestants to ride rocking horses and shoot targets after walking through swinging saloon doors. Sometimes these stages are called silly names like “Revenge of the Green Men from Mars”.

there have been "bootleg" 3 gun rules around the IDPA community for a longtime, for example http://www.nepaidpascores.net/misc/Provisional_IDPA_3-Gun_Rules.pdf dated 2007.

in the USA they seem to incorporate a "different" firearm into a lot of stages be it longarm or other, for example at the last IDPA Nationals they started the stage with a silenced glock (pickup gun) in an officer down situation.... then when empty transition to your gun.

I see no problems with a "horse" stage or a "motorcycle" stage, they are real life scenarios and something we as canadians when it comes to the horse can easily be seen doing.... IDPA does not mean self defence just against "humans" but it should be defense against all threats, be they wildlife or other.

hell I heard last year the BC provincials had a rocking boat as a stage prop... the guys loved it.... and we have all seen or shot a "wolves attack" type of stage.

frankly I think IDPA needs more Zombie stages.... there are definatly not enough zombies in IDpA. let me rephrase that... not enough zombie scenario's in IDPA.
