Attention ontario deer hunters!

I'm going to miss it this year. i wish i was able to get a tag and let someone else get me some food.

Ontario needs a system like SK & AB where you apply to a WMZ (WMU in Ont.) that is non-existent so that you retain your pool priority when you are able to hunt again. Not to mention pay for the draw at $4 per species drawn for instead of purchasing the license.

A regular deer tag is valid only for deer with antlers. The antlerless tag is valid for antlered as well as antlerless deer (does and fawns). Valid for all deer.
Many hunters get them "just in case", even though they plan to hunt bucks. Or if someone else in the party shots a doe, but does not have an antlerless tag.

There's no pool system for deer hunting.... yet.

According to the stats from last year I have a 25% chance of getting a antlerless license on my first choice in WMU 46. Last year 3 of us put in for antlerless and 1 got one. Hopefully we will be lucky again this year.

Was at a buddies house tonight. Deer everywhere! They come almost to stick stabbing distance and didn't even care that the kids were running around 20-30' from them.

I have been applying in WMU 5 for 14 years. Always received a doe tag and always managed to get a surplus tag or two. Hunted hard, really hard last year and managed a 9 point on the last morning of the hunt, when it was -27. Hopefully this year is better and the numbers are at the very least starting to stabilize.
