Attn Alberta bear hunters

I live near Cold Lake and am planning to go out bear hunting in two weeks, but only if the meat is worth eating. I have only eaten bear meat from Quebec and loved it.
What do you find tastier, spring or fall bear?

I prefer a fall bear that has been feeding on Oats or Fruit. However, a spring bear is fine after he has been out of hibernation for a couple of weeks, and has had a chance to eat some fresh dandelions or other vegetation. If he has found a long dead animal to feed on, I want nothing to do with him. Regards, Eagleye

Best bear meet

Without question that would be a fall bear, just make sure you are not hunting close to rivers with the salmon runs.

Somebody told me something about yellow fat, versus white fat. Yellow walk away with the hide. White good to go!
Anybody know if this is true, cause I didn't bother going out after I heard that. I wanted too!
I now am in an area where there are a few and would really like to harvest one as well. I have an empty freezer.

Spring bear still taste fine. I stew and marinate most of it usually.

Fall can taste better depending on what they eat all year.


I find farm field deer taste better than thick wood deer as well.
