August is Tree stand Safety month

Most of my trees are carragana, ;) hard to set up a tree stand in those. Plus i'm not crazy about anything more than 5 feet above ground level.

I live on the west coast. You can hang a tree stand in almost any tree you see... However, you'll be lucky to get a 10m shot from a treestand with all the other giant trees surrounding you.

Always wanted to try this style of hunting, but I would need to set one up 3+ hours from home to be in a place where it can actually be useful, which is too much work for a weekend and I would be too worried about it being stolen to leave it up in a place so far from home.

My one piece of advise would be to remove your wedding ring while climbing into/out of your stand, particularly if you're using those screw in hooks. I've heard plenty of stories of guys slipping and sleeving their finger because their ring caught on a step as they were falling.

Fella fell to his death off a roof next door yesterday. Heard his scream as he fell. Heard the screams of his coworkers when they found him. The second screams were worse.

Be careful out there folks. Give gravity the respect it deserves.

Man thats brutal. Hope it doesn't cause you too much grief.

Harness up boys!

I did a job a few years ago for a family who's father fell from a tree stand. he was parallelized from the waist down. it was a stand he had used for years apparently.
