... There are both Federal and State Laws that have to be dealt with. In general, it's NOT easy to import ( even on a temporary basis, Firearm's and more so, Pistols/Revolvers ) .... If you are seriously planning to try any form of Big Game hunting, it's easier and no doubt, more productive, to contact a local Big Game Guide. Hunting License's required for damn near everything , not sure how the current legislation applies to tourists/visitor's though. Check the Australian Government's Web Sites for most of the information you'd require, plus the Hunting/Shooting Magazine's, have web pages, and then there are Australian Shooters Associations web pages as well.....David K
.. Am I local ? Yes and No... I've Dual Citizenship,( Australian and Canadian ) and visited my Mother, in Melbourne, two years a go. Spent some of the time Traveling around my old haunting grounds, and stayed on a Sheep Property as well....... Growing up in Australia, I've been exposed to the decline in shooting opportunities since the 50s, and try, out of interest only, to keep up with the News in Melbourne specifically, and peripherally elsewhere. ...... Long gone are the days when no Licenses was needed to shoot Rabbits ( Professionals counted them by pairs, there were just so many ) and when the Government provided Brand New in the Wrap, SMLEs, and Ammunition, to Property Owners, for the eradication of Kangaroos on their Properties...... So, in answer to your question, yes I've a little knowledge of the Hunting over there. Definitely, NOT detailed though !! ..... Believe it or not, but I was even a Police Officer for the Commonwealth of Australia at one time. ....
