Got a Austin & Halleck catalogue in the mail today. Man these guns are beautiful. Anyone have any experience with them? I was also looking at the Savage today at Le Baron in Ottawa. They have the laminated stainless in stock. Again what a nice gun. Had pretty well settled on an NEF Huntsman but now I don't know. Also anybody know if Black Mag 3 powder is available in Canada yet? Was at the camp today and the snow on the range is still up around the twins so I don't have to decide right away.

Those austen and hallecks are beauties aren't they. I want a mountain rifle in the worst way. SIR has them but the prices are up there, I believe 850$ for the mountain rifle.

i heard A&H are the same people who built the hatfield. any truth to that rumour?
the hatfields were pretty sweet rifles too.

Not sure who makes the barrels......but I picked up one in the states a few weeks ago and brought it back..........man what a beauty. Ended up getting 3 stocks for it, 1 classic 1 monte and 1 synthetic. Can't wait to shoot it. It has to be the prettiest looking in-line on the market. Hope it shoots as well as it looks.

Just had a talk with friend he had been hunting and his buddy had a AH he was totally unimpressed with it there was several problems one was a bolt handle falling off do not remember the other problems.
I have been to the range with my sidekick twice now it is showing great promise.

I just got a Austin & Halleck Mountain rifle in flintlock from S.I.R. . I had a couple of issues with the rifle but thier cutomer service was willing to bend over backwords to make me happy. They are a good company to deal with, and the rifle is a keeper. The inside of the barrel is as smooth as silk, unlike my Lyman Deerstalker, that is quite rough. I have only shot it a few times, but plan on getting to it on Sunday. My old eys don't like the sights much, but they are sending me some new ones.

There was a coil of metal from cutting the flash hole left in the barrel, and the inside of the stock where the lock was fitted in was a little rough. Nothing major, but less than what I had expected. I really wanted a ball barrel, so that narrowed it down to the Lyman Greatplanes rifle at 9 lbs, or the A & H Mountain rifle at 7 1/2 lbs. I am happy with the rifle, and would recommend it. I will be hunting with it this next week, so I will tell how it goes.

They are Hatfield rifles and when Hatfield went broke he teamed up with A & H .
