Guys I would personally like to Invite any of You who can, to come an Hunt Australia, in particular Victoria the southern eastern state.

Many Deer species and some ferals on offer but not Like "Hunting" as you know, or the Businesses around Hunting..........

SAMBAR DEER in particular. being a significant Wild herd outside of their natural native Country of Sri Lanka / India , The Australian herd offers second to none hunting with Challenges from both Landscape, Animal behaviour and from a shooting perspective.
----------------------------------------
NON RESIDENT licenses.......
Hunters who are non-residents of Australia
A new 'Non-resident of Australia Game Licence' has now been introduced to facilitate access to game hunting for international visitors and support the commercial hunting and guiding industry. The Non-resident of Australia Game Licence removes the need for international hunters to pass the Waterfowl Identification Test or Sambar Deer Hunting with Hounds Test before going hunting. However, a Non-resident Game Licence holder must hunt under the direct supervision of an adult who holds a valid Game Licence specific to the species being hunted.

The Non-resident Game Licence is only available to people who reside outside of Australia and is restricted to a maximum period of 14 days. A Non-resident of Australia Game Licence attracts the same fee as a full 12-month Game Licence.

To apply for a Non-resident Game Licence, please complete the attached Non-Resident game licence application form.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

So this is potentially around $50 per license and no Test needed, OTC as you say....

its really basic but I am more than happy to answer any Questions about anything to do with hunting, deer hunting in Victoria, Australia.

Theres Relaxed laws as far as Private property goes with the current 'over populated low lying areas' which means you may have oppertunity to be involved in Night time culling on properties if the Fair Chase Real hunting isnt your thing but I am more interested in the Sporting Chase of the Sambar and passing on that info.

Hit the Googler and punch in Sambar Deer Australia, check youtube for some hunting videos out of Australia (minimal) but it may just peak your interest---

Happy to Help anyway on any info - loaner rifles - places to hunt - be your personal guide/licensed hunter - tell you who NOT to hunt with ETC
you can gain most info from here - http://www.gma.vic.gov.au this is our loose game management gang

Thanks CGN

Sheeeeeet! I want to do this so bad. Wife and I were in OZ for a month back in 2012 and we loved it.

Is it a camp out style? As in bring tents/sleeping bags?

Wonder if meat can be packaged and shipped back somehow?

Patrick

They got snakes there that can kill a man just by blinking at him. At least St Patrick chased all the snakes out of New Zealand.

Thats all up to You i guess mate, As far as being legally allowed to Kill the Animal - which this kind of clears up the rest would be depending on your situation an how you went about it.

Theres a few terrains to hunt, like farm land approach or the "bush" and high country approach, alot is typically camping weekends up the bush along a creek etc.... but some people you may know might have a guest house on the farm, maybe a Hut close by or You might need the comfort of a Local Caravan Park with a ensuite cabin or perhaps the Pub/Bar Motel Room suits your budget...........

i like to grab the camping gear and go bush to persue the deer, say a Canadian came over to hunt with me, I personally have Farmland access and the public land bush, so its easy to tailor the hunt... i also built a bush hut recently ha ha

Snakes are HERE but mostly in SUMMER, seldom seen in Winter.
Fallow deer around April an Sambar from april thru to October before summer brings the snakes out

19 species of things that can kill you, if I remember correctly. That and temperatures that will fry an egg on a rock. Just wandering around out there will do it. I'm holding out for Alaska. :)

Just met my brother who lives in Australia for the first time about a month ago, he came to Canada to meet us for his 60th birthday, pretty cool experience. We are going to visit them in two years from now, he has a 40 acre property in the Hunter Valley just outside of Newcastle, and he is a hunter, and also does feral animal control etc. Should be a very cool trip and I've always been fascinated by Aus, so I'm really looking forward to it. Looks like a really nice area he lives in, kind of reminds me of the Okanagan region here in BC, with the vineyards etc

it will be interesting too see what NSW offers for non residents... their 'system' is a bit ####ty as far as Victorias rules go.. book into forrests an a restricted license for public land, differeing from private land licenses..... its big money over there, victoria is slowly going that way it feels.
cool story and have a good trip when you get down here

Hem. Interesting.

How easy is it to bring one's rifle over?

I'm poor as can be but have achieved all manner of international travel through my work and could definitely see this being an option.

Edit: What about archery (compound or crossbow?).

yeh fairly easy to import an export, paper work within the month that you travel really... Customs in Aus are very understanding an easy to deal with...........
Bows are Legal, Crossbows NOT. too tough of a hunt with Bow but seasoned hunters do pull it off. i cant really say too tough to hunt with bow as i see alot of you blokes killen decent challengin animals with a bow...

the flight is your biggest cost...

i can take you into widlerness mountains, 1500m ASL an we can hunt under the snow? guranteed to be 0 degrees an NO snakes.. but couple spiders, dingos, wild dogs to keep ya on yer toes

I guess my biggest question, having never hunted outside canada, is what does one do with the meat? Can it be exported..... and what procedure/cost is involved. Then on the Canadian side, can the meat be imported.... procedure /cost. Can the meat be gifted to a charitable organization or needy family?
I'm not a trophy hunter so the hunt can't just be about the antlers but I really badly want to hunt those animals.
Also, if I came down there to hunt, I would want to experience hunting there with WhelanLad..... would be the whole point of making the trip ;)

Export of game animals parts can be regulated (or not) by the foreign country, depending on the jurisdiction. Import of game animal carcasses is forbidden in Canada, with the exception of animals legally harvested in the USA. Most provinces also regulate the transportation of cervids (deer family) and prohibit the entry of certain body parts in order to avoid the spread of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD). The inter-provincial rules also apply to animals hunted within Canada and transported over a provincial boundary.
