I am pleased to report that I have a Sportco bolt action detachable box mag fed 22lr rifle.
It was imported back in the 60s by a local guy who had a dealer license back then. I purchased it from his estate back in '04 when he sadly passed. I would rather still have him around to talk to. F*** I hate this day in age, and would like to go back in time.
Another interesting item to come from him was two 22 single shot rifles and a 22 single pistol of Mendoza manufacture. He saw the ad for them in Shotgun News back in the early 60s and mailed a money order in pesos. In a few weeks his wife went to the PO and picked them up during her lunch hour. He then took the pistols to the local detachment for registration when he had time within a few days. Unbelievable huh! And nobody was shot during a drive by while those pistols were not registered nor a bank held up.
I also got one of those pistols with the shorter barrel length when my elderly friend passed in 2000. He had purchased it from the dealer I mention back in the day. These are cheap guns and everything but barrel and chamber are made of stamped steel, but they function flawlessly with a built in extractor and are amazingly accurate for what they are intended for. The pistols have holders on the side of the receiver for six spare rounds. I know another guy who carried one while trapping back in the 60s. I had the opportunity to shoot that one when I was around 12yrs old or so.
I also purchased two Sportco rifles of Martini dropping block design from his estate. One is in 22lr and the other in 22 hornet.
