 I have a Browning auto 5 'light twenty' and was told today that the barrel from a standard model auto 5 may not fit on the 'light twenty' due to my shotgun having a slightly different receiver than a standard auto 5 shotgun. Since I don't know if this is correct or incorrect, I need someone to verify this information for me please before I buy a barrel from a standard auto 5 shotgun to put onto mine.
Thanks very much,
AG.

I do not think it wise to switch calibres on that 20 gauge. The gun and internals (bolt face, etc) were designed for 20 gauge which is diametrically smaller than 12 gauge....I would think it probably will not accept a standard 12 gauge barrel anyway...

Thanks for the reply, but I do not intend to switch calibers, and didn't make mention of in my post. What I meant was will a barrel from a standard model auto 5 20 gauge fit on the lightweight model auto 5 20 gauge? I was told today that it may not fit due to slight differences in the receivers. Just need some clarification on it. Thanks
AG.

Sorry, my mis-interpretation.....I am unsure whether the standard 20 gauge barrel will fit on the light weight frame....someone else on here must have some input though....c'mon guys....

The following is taken from this web site:

w w w.midwestgunworks.com/page/mgwi/PROD/A-02-B/111001705

Description: Browning A-5 Barrel. Available in 2 3/4" and 3" chambers. Extra barrels are a handy accessory when you wish to change length or sighting planes. Please note one important caution when ordering extra Auto-5 Shotgun barrels. Do not attempt the use of 3" barrels on 2 3/4" receivers, nor 2 3/4" barrels on 3" receivers
Manufacturer: Browning
Code - 111001705
Gauge - 20 Gauge Light or Standard
Chamber - 2 3/4" Only

According to this info, you should be good to go as long as you stick to the 2 3/4" chambers.

I think the concurn you have is reasonable,as the A5 light twelve and the light twenty were made (light )by hollowing out some of the buttstock, reciever, forarm and useing a matted rib!

You might have a loose fit to reciever, maybe not but still a legit question!

I think the last poster may have the answer, but you have to concider the new barrel should have the matted rib or the barrell weight could crack the weaker buttstock!

Great question!
