Hello all!

I've got the bug to get an auto-loader in 22LR. I've got a nice old scoped Cooey 600 (heavy barrel model) that is a nice shooter except for the trigger which is kind of creepy.
I've narrowed down my choices to either a Marlin 795 or Rem 597. I am NOT going to shell out for a 10/22 so that is out of the question. I also don't want another tube feed gun because that is the main thing I don't like about the Cooey.
I'm looking for accuracy and reliability. I'd like to shoot silhouette with it but not at a super competitive level. I would like to be able to put lots of rounds down range in a day so I like the heavy barrel 597 but they seem to require more care and maintenance then I am willing to give a rimfire.

Please weigh in with your thoughts on the matter.
Cheers,
Grant

Why don't you do a poll?

The 597 seems to be gaining in popularity, which will help with the dearth of aftermarket parts.

Personally, my next auto-loader would be a T/C Benchmark or Benchmark Classic. Its what an autoloader should be, out of the box.

Thanks for the responses so far.
I really like the T&C rifles but I'm not sure I want to drop that much on a rimfire right now. I have handled a used one in a shop though and it was very nice. I might have to go back there and chat up the owner on the price.
On the other hand I am thinking I want to keep this a fairly light gun so my wife will be interested in shooting it. She finds my Cooey to be much too heavy for off-hand shooting, especially with a full tube.

Does rapid rife really heat-up a sporter barrelled gun in .22? Because my shooting buddy has a 10/22T and it'll eat rounds all day before it gets very hot.

So I'm thinking the 597 LSS with scope would probably be a nice middle of the road gun. Not a really heavy barrel but it should have enough mass to keep the heat out for some extended firing correct?

Cheers,
Grant

P.S. I'm not a big fan of polls for some reason, I prefer to hear reasoning over voting.
