Autocomp

Anybody use Winchester Autocomp for .40? Thoughts or reviews. Using 180 g Ares bullets. Flash? Clean?

Somebody might, but i doubt its very popular....titegroup, bullseye, a few others seem to be the powder of choice.

Having said that, if youve got it, might as well use it

Hi Carl,
Autocomp is designed primarily for compensated handgun (hence the name). Supposed to generate more gas? Remember a time no so long ago where powder was a tough find? I had a pound to fart around with but no pistol with compensator... used it anyway.

It worked fine except:
a) dirtiest powder I ever used. Used just enough to make power factor; and
b) widest velocity readings I ever recorded on the chronograph. It's up and down crazy like when with a new girlfriend...
An IPSC buddy experienced the very same thing.

Thinking out loud, with 4 lb, the local 38 Super crowd may find you very ###y... You know who they are.
