I have been working on restoring a Lithgow SMLE #1 MKIII*, and I don't really care if this is not a 'stock' modification, but I was thinking it would be fun to make up one of the 'auxilliary' front barrel bands.
These usually were put on SMLE's that were being done up for target shooting, and the idea seems neat to me.
Were there any specs for these things, or was it mainly a cottage industry proposition?
I am aware of the challenges associated with 'fitting it' and have no problem with that.
Suggestions?
