Aware of anyone who will rebarrel a break action rifle in Canada?

There is another option that I forgot to mention; you can cut the barrel off ahead of the pivot point (ahead of the lump), bore out the stubb and soft solder a new barrel into the stub. There is enough surface area that there should be no problem of the joint holding as long as to stick to a light caliber like a 38 S&W. I would not chamber the gun to any "hot" modern pistol shell because I don't think the action is particularly strong. You may also want to have the firing pin bushed and go to a smaller pin tip diameter since I am guessing the old pin is close to 1/8" diameter at the tip

A rifled bore cannot be altered once it is produced. It can be "erased" (rebored) and re-rifled to a larger caliber or bored and a liner installed. You cannot safely, reliably or accurately alter the depth of the rifling in a barrel. Your best bet is to either have Ron Smith rebore and rechamber for a larger caliber or have the barrel replaced completely.

Yes, re-boring and re-chambering is what I was suggesting (I suppose I wasn't very clear in how I wrote that...). I was not suggesting that it would be possible to simply re-chamber and use the existing bore and rifling rifling or increase the depth of the rifling.

On another note: For the OP, may I ask where you sourced the .300 Rook Bertram brass? I have been looking and have not found any.

You may still see some circulating at the gun shows, not very often, but the odd box shows up here & there. I got most of mine in the 1989 to 1992 period, there was lots around back then.

Thanks 209jones and pmatuk,

209jones, I will certainly keep an eye out at the shows.

pmatuk, I am interested in the method you used to form the 30 Carbine brass. It would appear that you lathe-turned the brass down a bit, then full-length sized it?
I have done similar with 32 H&R Magnum brass, but it is somewhat difficult to find and then it is still a bit short.

Cheers!

made up some 300 rook from 30carbine and seems to work well in my rook

I have two barrels, one in a short version and one in a long version of what appear to be a 30 rook caliber. Both of the chambers are a few thousands larger than unmodified 30 carbine brass. Possible to use 32-20 and balloon it out I suppose and stick with low pressure loads. The 32-20 brass is about 10 thou smaller than the 30 carbine, if my memory is correct
