Wellllll......I did it. Two boxes of Win Super Target #8 in hand a Winchester 1300 Defender in the trunk and not a faint clue what to do when I got there, I went off to Toronto International Trap Club last night. WHAT A BLAST (no pun intended).

Drove in and only a single car in the lot. It turned out to be the lady working the snack bar. She had come in to do a little cleaning up and aside from some idle chit chat she couldn't help me much. Tony should up about 1/2 hour later (exactly at the same time as the butterfly's in my belly:p ). I introduced myself and explained that I was very keen to add clay to my list of addictions. I also mentioned what I had for equipment as well as experience. He proceed to smile....tell me "don't be stupid....you have to start somewhere" (in Italian of course).....and then set me up with all I needed to know. I helped him get some of the equipment (microphone's at each stand) set up. I even got to load up the machine with clay (kinda cool to see how things worked under there. He offered some beginer tips but said the he didn't want to cluter up my head with too many things to think about. He suggested that I just try a few rounds and get a feel for it. I got a couple of the basics. He stood beside me for the first few shots and then watched me hit 6 of the first 10 shots. "You don't need me anymore" he proclaimed.

WOOOOOPEEEEEEEEEE

Tony was fantastic. I ended up doing the first round all from the center possition to simplify things. I did a second round shooting from all 5 stations before a single other car pulled into the lot. What the hell was I thinking......showing up with only 2 boxes of shells.....IDIOT!

I watch for about another 45 minutes as a steady stream of people began to show up and proceed to shot. Tony came up to me and asked if I was ready to try shooting with a couple of other people. I explained my dreadfull mistake in ammo purchasing and before I knew it, he was off to his car to get me a box out of his personal supply. Freaken excellent :) :D :) :D :) (can we swear on CGN?).

What a great first experience....Thanks Tony.

Gianni

p.s. Sorry about the longwinded story but my wife would only listen to me for about 2 minutes before she got bored...LOL

I don't know Tony at all, but I would like to shake his hand and thank him for being such an excellent ambassador for our sport.

And, yes, trap uses a lot of ammo. Buy it by the flat.

Pisan ...

Time for a Beretta Trap Gun & at least a skid of shells .... talk to the locals for a good price on shells. If your gonna' get addicted...get 'er done ! Seriously though, it doesn't matter what your gun is, abide by the rules, be polite and mannerly and have fun. But yes, ... lots & lots of shells !

And by the way, it's " T.I.T.S. " Toronto International Trap & Skeet ... just look up above the door ... chiseled right in there !

Ciao.

2 flats in my trunk right now....hehehehehehehehehehehehe

LeBaron had Winchester Super Target Loads in either 7 1/2 or 8 (I bought 8) for $43.95 per. I've bought alot of hand gun ammo from them and find that they can be unreliable with inventory so I went ahead and bought 2.

Now....to figure out how to sneak an O/U into my safe without my wife knowing.

wish me luck.

A flat will only get you through a day or two.... buy it by the truckload.
:D

Brad.

All I meant was, don't buy it by the box. So far this August, my wife and I have gone through 8 flats of various ammo, and it's only the 18th. Maybe it's time to start buying it by the pallet.

Welcome to the world of clays...you NEED a special gun (or guns) now. May as well start softening your wife up to this new reality now :)

I'm in the same boat, but fortunately it's just me shooting..... 4 weekends in August, 4 competitions. Will have in 2000 registered birds this month, plus X more in practice. I prefer the 'ignorance is bliss' accounting method.........;)
