Took my savage axis 30.06 to the range today to sight in. I'm using Remmington 180 grain. Not sure if its the ammo, the magazine or me, BUT when loading the next round the bolt stops about half way, if I pull it back slighlty and than push forward again, the round goes in. Anyone else had this problem? What's the fix. Pretty annoying if a quick follow up shot is needed.

That is pretty well normal, when you push the bolt in, too slow.
When you push the bolt slow, the new cartridge pops up at an angle and stops. It will go in, if you continue pushing, making a mark on the side of the cartridge case.
Just close the bolt faster and end your trouble.

I fixed the problem, I don't know what it's called but the thing that spins on the end of the bolt has to be positioned a certain way or else it won't cycle properly. So I turned it 180° and it works perfect now. lol

Glad you got it sorted out.
I was reading some axis reviews on cabellas, one guy gave it a 1* rating as he claimed the "bore sighted scope was way off, it shot 5 inches to the right of the bullseye, good thing I shot it before going hunting as I would have wounded game"....
I just ordered a 7mm-08 for craps n giggles, $330 after the $50 mail in rebate, and I'll try and sell the scope for $30....I sighted in my old man's .223 Axis and it shot really well even with the cheap scope and not so great trigger.

Idiocy such as that is probably more common than one would think. Especially with the package gun crowd.

I'm more of a semi auto type guy so this was my first bolt action, i like it. It's a good price for a gun with a free floating barrel and a rail, and a half decent trigger. I wish it had a heavy barrel though, as after 3 - 4 shots it gets red hot. Especially with 30.06 ammo
