Are the barrels and actions identical on these two firearms? (when comparing short action)

The Axis is 70$ cheaper than the Stevens 200 ?? Just cant seem to understand why and what the difference is?

No,
Spend the extra 70.
The Axis has its own monstrosity of a recoil lug, that was pretty much unsupported up til last week when Boyds came out with 3 stock options for it, but other than that, the axis is a great gun, aslong as you just leave it alone. But Id suggest getting the 200, its based of the 110 savage action, and gives you alot more options for improvements/modifications, But more importantly resale value!

No Accutrigger
No Accustock
Molded stock
detachable box magazine (unique to the Axis)

Basically they started with a blank sheet of paper and tried really hard to cut production costs to drive down the retail price of an entry-level bolt gun.
Lots more plastic parts where possible.

GOOGLE savage axis review to find lots more, incl videos

Iv hade both and the Axis was a better gun all around. Better machining, better bedding system and it also has a detachable mag box. Neither have the accutrigger or accustock.

The plus to the Stevens is it is available in a short action where as the Axis is only available in a long action.

Both are cheap #### guns, made of cheap #### parts.
