axis xp scope model?

It is a very low end scope, as are most of the scopes included on lower priced packages. Last weekend, I witnessed three package scopes fail in the two days that I was at the local range.
 
A friend of mine just bought one for his wife (over the phone) without actually having handled one and he was quite disapointed in the quality/finish of the rifle and scope. But what can you expect of a dirt cheap rifle/scope combo?
 
I picked up a Savage package rifle and swapped the Bushnell scope and rings with my Trijicon Accupoint. Why keep an inexpensive scope on a rifle when I had a nicer one available?

The Bushnell scope and rings ended up on my Marlin 336 and it has performed very well.
 
I have one of these Savage Axis package guns in 223. I know the scope for sure is a cheap one but it is not all that bad. On a bigger caliber with more recoil for sure I think I would replace it before it broke but on my little 223, so far its been surprisingly pretty good.

Exactly, compare it to even a mid range scope at dusk or dawn, and the difference will become quite evident. Then try a tracking test, or shoot rounds at varying magnification, and it will become even more evident. If you are really unlucky, the scope will fail on a hunt, and ruin the hunt.

The cheap package scopes generally suffer optically, they don't track precisely, the point of impact often moves with the magnification setting, and they usually are not overly durable.

Yeah, well for the same price he could have bought a remington 770 at least the Axis combo is accurate and the scope can be upgraded at a later date if he feels the need to do so.

You also gotta remember that there is a reason people buy the cheap package guns and that is they just want to get out and shoot. Sure there are some drawbacks but for the most part these guns are for the novice hunter or for guys like me who just want to go out and pound a few coyotes without spending a g note on a gun and scope package. I have a $70 Simmons scope on my muzzle loader that has taken many 100-150gr shots and still works great and is certainly good enough for my purposes-whose to say if it will fail. I had to send in a minty looking Leupold vx11 that the internal elevation adjusting system failed on-ended up being replaced with a new scope.

No, actually it's a Bushnell Sharpshooter.

This scope is not actually made by Bushnell but by some third OEM. It's also sold as a Tasco...

Google 'bushnell sharpshooter' and you'll recognize it immediately.

The new Vanguard S2 is a fantastic gun. Guaranteed Sub-MOA. Excellent blu-ing and generally well manufactured.
