I'm a card carrying Status Indian and I pay lots of taxes and can't hunt wherever I want.
I get some tax relief on gas bought on the rez and the provincial portion of the HST, but I pay the rest of the taxes (income, property, school, gas taxes for gas bought off the rez...) as everyone else. I also have to hunt within my peoples traditional and treaty territory unless I get a letter from another band to shelter under their rights.

Its a noble thing to do and I totally respect that, not sure how many people share your status are going the same path though.
I don't do it to be noble, the same requirements apply to all natives in my same situation. Working and living off reserve mean I play by all the same income and property tax rules as everyone else. If I could legally pay less tax I would, just like anyone else would.
I may eventually move back to the rez to let my daughter go to school and grow-up there with her relatives but I will still pay income tax if I keep working for my current employer.
Judges should be elected by the general local population in the area they serve. ...maybe then we could have our country back!
What if we all just "self identify" as native, much like all that self identify as one of the 15 transgender identities that are currently recognized. Then we all pay no tax and hunt wherever!
