Got about 40 Friday evening, 80 through Sat. morning (they were gun shy in that field, had to do a lot of prone, sniping).

Checked out a new field later Sat., and got 70+ in 90 minutes. Sunday morning I finished off in the same field and got over 100 more in a few hours.

Marlin 60 and Yellow Jackets packs a mean punch. Got a few 'poppers' and one very nice somersault.

Pleased with my shooting from the shoulder. Most shots 25-40 yards and hardly a miss. I've only really shot at the range and off a rest for the past many years. Not much field work.

First time for gophers. Now I understand... what a hoot!

Shooting gophers is probably one of the most fun things you can do with your clothes on.

Na you need a 17hmr. Good to about 125 yards with some TNT shells. The old .204 gets pricy when your shooting 300 gophers in a day.

Yes a bit pricey but one can shoot a centre fire like a 204 or the venerable 222 rem for not too much more than the price of 17HMR if he reloads. Taking those critters well past the 200 yard mark is great!

I've got a Marlin with a red dot on it. The whole thing cost me $40. They are really accurate semis. I'd rather have it than the 597 in the field. It weighs about 2 pounds.

Yup, smakin' sod rats is one of my favorite past times. Hopefully you will have the oppurtunity to get back here for a future pasture safari.

Glad you had a great time, it's a excellent way to hone your shooting skills! Plus, your helping to control a destructive pest....

...Now, if they get gun shy in a certain field....this is what to do. We always bring a ghetto blaster on our gopher safari's. When they go down like that, wait 5 minutes, then turn on some music. They can't help themselves....they will pop up like popcorn to see what's going on.

..They do seem to like bagpipe music....but lately Reba McEntire seems to be really pulling them up.........:)
