Might set up a thrower way out back on the weekend and play around.
I won a browning maxus a few years ago, it came with 3 chokes
Full, modified, improved cylinder

What might be my best bet for some back yard trap shooting?

I have a few cases of 8 shot target load.

Since all you have is IC that will be your best bet for standing beside the thrower. If you had a true cylinder bore choke(no constriction) or a skeet choke(less constriction than IC) that would be even better but if you're blasting the targets 10 yds or so from the launcher any choke will suffice as there isn't much noticeable difference at those ranges. Think #8 skeet station target distances! And technically you are shooting neither, you're shooting informal clays from a manual launcher you're standing next to. In the probably 100,000+ targets I've shot on a trap range I've yet to stand beside the trap house, Lol.
