Hi folks

So thanks to the feedback I received here in a thread a couple weeks ago, I went and bought myself a nice Ruger 10 12 yesterday with a Bushnell scope. It's all paid for and being mounted together now. Can't wait to bring it home.

At the store I saw some cool rifle airguns. I have enough acreage in my backyard to shoot with these things (the air guns). What would I use as targets, and what would I use to capture the bullets? If I'm shooting towards a "forest", I can use like pop cans (?). Would I put a wood board behind them so they don't go flying into the trees? Would the board be slanted downwards or perpendicular to the ground? I don't want to pollute my backyard trees with stray BBs.

Thanks in advance.

Congradulations on the New 10/22 and air gun!
Is it a BB gun or Pellet rifle? How powerful? Reason I ask is BB's tend to bounce off things a bit more.

I'd probably hang cans with some tye-wire if I was shooting cans, You could make a basic frame to hang cans off of and also paper targets. Reactive targets like cans are more fun. Some people that like to shoot paper targets will make a silent pellet trap out of a junk steel container of some sort that they pack with wax. (duct seal)

If you google home made pellet trap you should find lot's of good ideas.

Depending on the power of your air gun, heavy cardboard, canvas, even an old blanket loosely hung will stop pellets. Animal crackers make great air gun targets and the crumbs feed the birds and small critters.
