Backup site for a bolt action?

Hey all, I was wondering new if the RAMP or rapid acquisition multi-site platform would fit on my savage model 10 fcp-sr. I wanted to get it to mount a high power optic and backup red dot on my rifle, but I am not sure if it will fit or will weigh too much.

My main concern is getting it and then having the damn thing not fit at some point. I thought it would be a good idea to have a red-dot to back up my main optic as sometimes in the bush you can't always pick for your targets to be in closer than 100 meters.

The purpose of the rifle is two fold, hunting rifle and bench gun.

Also I can't seem to find anyone in Canada who carries the Warne RAMP scope mount with 30mm rings and two optional 45 degree offset rails for mounting a backup optic on.

Thank you in advance for any advice you might have.

Had to look it up. Nice choice in rifle. I have yet to see a bolt gun with back up sights other than factory, and those are more rare every year. Shooting through a red dot or other optic mounted off center on that 45 degree rail would require an awkward head position, losing your cheek weld, adding weight, and something else to snag on branches can't be better than a low magnification scope. Choose a good scope that will go down to 3x or 4x (or less) at the bottom end. As it is with that gun, a nightforce or USO etc will add 2+ lbs to your total weight. I wouldn't want to carry that rig far on flat ground let alone up a hill...

I shake my head at some of the old school setups I see in hunt camps. "See through mounts" and "tip offs" have likely caused more misses than having a good scope set up and shooting an animal at close distance properly through the scope with it dialed down to low magnification. Just my 2 cents.

LOL. The more I look, the more I scratch my head. Plus on a bolt gun, you can only mount on 1 side or your bolt will hit the other optic. Still had the web page open, here are a couple pics.

This pic shows a tacticool doucher about to get face #@#$ed by his scope. great ergonomics, 1/2" of "eye relief" to a busted nose. Would be great on a 50 BMG

This guy gets to shoot gangster style by rotating his rifle so that maybe some brass will fall back into the ejection port:

Thanks for the pics, I've done some reading around on other sites and it seems like some people find it pretty useful to have zero'd for out to 500 to 600 to use for target identification. From what I have seen though the cons out way the pro's 10 to 1. It does seem like it would have some practical application but not very much. Anyways thanks for the input man. I'm still not sure if I am going to do it or not, you have definitely given me some stuff to think about lol.

No one has responded to the part where I ask about where to find Warne scope mounts as well, they seemed to have disappeared from the market or they were never introduced to the Canadian market...

Warne makes decent mounts. There is nothing wrong with them. I have used their steel maxima mounts on a muzzle loader without issue. The ramp mount you asked about is pretty tall, it may not be ideal height depending on which scope you pick. Also, I notice it is around $180, for that price you can get a set of nightforce ultralite rings in anodized aluminum with titanium cross bolt. Much higher quality and you can pick the height you require for your application.

Look for a wide range variable some of the nicer bushnells are 1.25-8 which is a great hunting range. For a few of my rifles I have multiple scopes for the different areas I use them. This may be an option as well.

Thanks for the input guys, I've been looking at getting some really low rings for long range and maybe just a peice of rail for like 50 to 60$ to try out and see what it looks like. After this discussion I am starting to realize it might not workout so well, so at this point if I do the peice of rail at least I am only out 50 to 60 dollars and it might not be that hard to get rid of if I wanna get my money back. I promise I will post pics as well lol.

Hey Guys, sorry I haven't updated this thread in bit. I went ahead and did this, and the red dot currently sits on the side of my rifle, I will try to post some pics to this thread when I get home tonight... It looks soo beautiful!
