Well the 6th trip of the year turned out to be a fantastic shoot. Big Redd and I hit the alfalpha feilds today at noon and started off with a large buck being rocked by my .220 Swift VSSF @ 130 yards. His day ended quickly and affirmatively with a 55g B/T. Redd was up 325 yards with his pet Browning Varminter in 25 WSSM topped with a 8.5-25x50 LR VXIII tossing 85g B/T's. That pig was missed on the first attempt but was stupid enough to try his luck a second time. He caught it at about 3000 fps in the good stuff and was blown back 2 feet. We only got two on that feild but moved to another which had the perfect length alfalpha on it after the first cut. We headed to high ground at 546 yards out from the fence line and set up. The dirt pigs were out in force and multiple attempts with the quarter bore to make the 500 yard shot was a no go today, however 400+'s were happin'. The best shot of the day was on a big male @ 375 yards which I caught head on in the teeth and blew both eye balls out and the majority of his face with the 220swift. Ausome bullet performance even at that range! We've got it all on tape for review latter. As I said a bad day to be a dirt pig, about a dozen we're sent to the big field in the sky.

Ya the mirage was brutal!!!! Anything past 350 was an amazing shot. The thermals were something else too. Insome cases hits at 350 were done with hash marks set at 320 or so. All in all, if your gonna play the long range game...expect to miss! But also expect to be challenged and learn. The dirt pigs have put on about 3-4 pounds now over their spring weight and the pups are out in force. The next cut will see my Sako Varminter in 260 Rem out there and my new 222 Tikka Varminter...the 243 WSSM good also go for a long range run.

Ya a male ground hawg can weigh about 15 pounds and a female up to about 20 pounds. I've hit them with a 243 WSSM inside 100 yards and they don't even lift an inch. The pups on the other hand if hit just right can do an ausome airbourne rototiller and triple back flip! If you take out a big ##### with pups...its like a 10 minute game of wack-a-mole of chamber, trigger, reload, chamber, trigger, reload. Tons of fun but not for a family unit.

These are just over grown rats! A farmers worst nightmare. I report back to the farmer on how many were killed on each feild each trip. His eyes light up when the number is over ten. Last year on a 4 hour trip we managed 28 off of two feilds!
