We i went to load up some rounds for the 300 win mag and open a new box of 180gr accubonds .Well they smell kinda acidic and the tips are falling off ?Some have a bit of a film on them.Anybody else had this happen? They were stored on my shelf inside and still wrapped in the factory plastic all 7 boxs i have are like this.I emailed nosler but have not heard back yet.Hope they can ship me new ones.

I do not know about a smell, but for sure have had the falling off tips - 250 grain 9.3 mm and 225 grain .338" - I read on "internet" that was a known and recognized failing of some lots of those bullets - I used the missing tip ones for pressure testing and initial scope sighting out to 100 yards - can not say that I noticed a difference whether tip was in place or not. I do not know about the smell and "film" - I never experienced that, yet.

I once many years ago sent then one ballistic tip that was deformed enough so that it was unusable. There were several like that in the box. On their advice I packaged it all up so it would clear the border so they could have a look. Not one word of communication in the years! I haven’t made a effort to use Nosler ever since.

The only factory ammo I’ve had with questionable ammo has been nosler which is hilarious since they charge a huge premium on their bullets..

For future reference.. federal > nosler for quality and customer service. Terminal ascents will blow away accubonds every day of the year.

All the animals I’ve put down.
I know you’re an accubond fan boy.
doesn’t make them any less ####ty lol

Sorry, let me correct that.. they are a thin skinned game bullet like antelope and white tail, and even then there are better choices.

I've only shot them in .308 and 7mm rem mag..... they kill moose just fine.
I have tried a number of the popular bullets in my 7mm and the gun likes the accubonds and partitions the best.

I had a couple older boxes I bought last year that had some green corrosion on a few pieces, seemed to wipe off pretty easy though.

Another exclusive accubond shooter. They work well for my ranges, preds to moose.

If memory serves, those tips melt off approximately ten meters in front of the muzzle, after being fired.

They're mostly in place to help with reliable feeding.

I do know that the lead tips on conventional bullets vaporize at appx the same distance from the muzzle.

I've cut the tips off both polymer tipped and lead tipped bullets on the lathe, then loaded up ten of each type and ten of each with the tips intact.

Took them to the range to test for accuracy and I couldn't see any difference in accuracy between them.

The bullets were all 165 grain, 308 diameter, Hornady spire points, with flat bases and loaded to 2800 fps in 30-06.

Your ASSUMPTION is Wrong ! Actually I'm a TTSX Fan ! so with ALL the animals you have put down NONE would have being DEAD with Accubonds ? Just Wondering ! RJ

good luck nosler is the only one that never answered after i found some issues with accubond and balistic tip during the 9.3 bullet tests.

Nosler makes some excellent bullets and the accubond is one of them. From time to time I have heard about issues with accubond tips. Supposedly it has something to do with the flux used in the bonding process reacting with the tip if not cleaned properly or something like that. I've shot them for many years and have never seen this but it happens.

They are not bombs, the back end stays together much like a partition. They make a bit wider wound channels than the monos but narrower than softer bullets.

I have had the same issue with 30 cal 200 gr AB, the tips corroding off. Sent an email to Nosler about 1 year ago letting them know the problem and giving my location. Never heard a word from them.

I took 225 AB's to Africa in my 338 Win Mag years ago and the tips kept coming off. I tested each one by pushing against the tip but something happened with one and I believe it caused me to miss a big Kudo at fairly close range while supported over a hood. Later, when I returned and started testing here because I couldn't understand what had happened I was missing 1 out of 4 shots at 100 meters. Wouldn't even hit the paper target at 100 meters. Never again will I use a tipped bullet by any brand on an expensive hunting opportunity.
