I’ve been having a hard time at the range. Target scopes would not focus, I have a cataract on r eye. I replaced the target with a Leupold 2.5-8 hunting scope. Shooting through the blur I surprised myself with a few good groups at 50 m. The old Brno #4 gave some 1/2 & 3/4 inch groups. I was able to pick up the heavier cross hairs better. Hope my surgery is done before the gophers are out in numbers. Just felt good, need some of that now :) AJ

Same here, got a cataract diagnosis couple of month ago, having a hard time using my scope, but not severe enough to be operate yet but hey, i can still shoot.

I had both eyes done in Aug-2018, right after buying 3 pairs of bifocals!! I had Glaucoma And Cataracts in both eyes, so Dr said - "Git'er done!! Worth it though, now see like 50 years ago! Rear irons a bit fuzzy but OK so SKS only hitting at 2-3" @50, and scope on other guns is fine too. I do need reading glasses for fine print, though.

Yes a.j. I know that feeling. Had my 2 Mossberg Model B s out to the range week before last. Open sights @ 25yrs. Right eye could just see there was a target. Had to switch to left hand and could see bullseye and rings! Still enjoyed it - Eye appointment next month!

If you have a cataract, you can have it fixed for free. It's covered by OHIP. My wife is the office manager for one of the busiest practices in the country.

You may opt for premium lenses and that would cost you, but the base lenses are free.

I wonder if the premium lenses are worth it since you can have only one cataract surgery. and what might be the additional cost?

It might be a way to get more money with unknown or doubtful benefit?

I hope to have both eyes don in next 2-3 months. R eye I time for gophers second in time for ducks. Going to try shooting some of the male gophers that are now up. Might be hard at any over 25 yds.

Make sure she's all healed-up before launching the steel. Might be a good opportunity to grab a soft-shooting, gas-operated semi if you don't have one already.

Good luck, the state of my eyes isn't something I give allot of though to...beyond wearing safety glasses for everything. lol

22lrguy has a point about healing. I'd talk to the surgeon about that. If the incision blows out, you might lose the lens - Ha! I'm cautious and I waited 2 months b4 shooting anything except my 22s. My doc did both eyes with 2-3 days between, then 2-week, 4-week 6-month follow-ups, now at yearly checks. BTW - Get a good pair of Sun Glasses - dark & Polarized against glare. Your eyes will be very light sensitive w/o the cataract 'clouds' - mine still are after 2-1/2 years.

The premium lenses can easily cost $2000 per eye. The main advantage is they are multi focal lenses kind of like progressive reading glasses. They help you focus over a range of distances.

The standard lenses are typically set at a fixed distance, but you can decide the distance. Some people will set both eyes differently, one for far and one for close.

If you go this way, mention it to the doctor and hopefully he will set you up for something that suits shooting appropriately.

Fortunately, it is my left eye that is clouded. [I shoot right] But I'm sure the right will not be too far behind.
I actually feel fortunate, since my Father had his cataract surgery when he was 59, I am mid 70's now, so
have done OK, so far. Have appointments with specialist/surgeon next week. Dave.

Had a stupid incident a few months back with a drill press... For god only knows why, the safety glass stayed on the shelves... Ho well, live and learn.

As far as shooting is concerned, soon enough I'll need get clip-on reading glass to put on my shooting glass... Because there is no way I can focus on the turrets.

I shoot all my guns now as a lefty as I had shingles on my right eye about 16yrs ago and screwed up the Cornea. I had no clue and thought I was just having a migraine by the time I went to the Doctor the damage was done.

I always thought my vision was fine until a fellow at a cowboy match said I should try it with my reading glasses on. I am far sighted so the sights are a blur but the target is nice and clear. Apparently its supposed to be the other way around. After putting on my glasses I got the effect I was supposed to have but past 20 yrds I take my glasses off and deal with the blurry sights.

I just has laser surgery to correct possible glaucoma issues in my future hope to hell it works (narrow angles).

Surgery's not cancelled due to COVID?

Have you tried peep sights, I had good luck , till the eyes where done about 10-15 yrs ago, They turned out good , ( right), left is not good, never has been any good.
For pistols, I used a clip on thing , with a small hole on my glasses, made a hell of a difference. Forget the name, you can adjust the hole size.

I have a buddy who is 82 years old and I've been telling him he has cataracts for years while he insisted he could see fine.

At the skeet range, he would call pull and look around for the bird, then call pull again, and again... until he eventually saw one of them.

Then he got the surgery, and a couple months later he went 25 straight, just like the old days.

Funny thing is that out of habit, he still wants to wear his glasses even though he sees better without them.
