Well we set up in a field today that the birds had been using as a water/resting spot during the day. Our first bird in for the morning was a single which came in and committed to the left side of the spread touching down before Scott could get up on him. A loud yell and he jumped up and as it cleared the decoys Scott folded it. Turned out to be a cackler, last year we got into a group of what we believed then were cacklers. After seeing this tiny bird we realised last years were lessers of some sort but had 1-2 pounds on this little guy.Later I punched a mallard and Jamie decided to check the weight difference of the two with an electronic fish scale. The mallard was 2lbs 11oz., the cackler was 2lbs 12oz.. All that extra wing size was only 1 ounce more!! Man are these guys small. Scott said he felt like he shot someone's pet and should apologize, LOL!!:rof:
