Baikal 50$

If it was his grandfathers shotgun, it might only be chambered for 2&3/4 inch shells, so confirm this. I had one of these, and they're very light. You can't go wrong for $50, if a single is what you want.

It will kick like a mule with slugs, but they seem to recoil straight back, without a lot of jump (if that makes sense).:)

I have one of the old original Baikal IJ-18's. It was my first gun. Got it new back in 1976. It's a bit loose in the gizmos now but still works great. Chrome lined bore looks like the day it was built and MAN! Has that gun shot a pile of rabbits, ducks and deer. Saskgunowner is right though. They are VERY light and do kick like a mule ( maybe worse) with slugs or 2- 3/4 magnum loads. Great old gun though. I seldom hunt with mine anymore though, BUT I DO usually take it along to give to some smart arse who thinks he's tough, to use when we go skeet shooting. After a box of magnums through that light little 12, they aren't so cocky! Ha! ha!
