Approximately what would a used Baikal double rifle (side by side) in good condition be worth? Chambered in .30-06 if that matters.

Thanks in advance for you input.

There should be a rule on this site that you cant ask the value of a rifle unless you post pics. Plain and simple. Then again that just IMHO...

Caveat on that rule would be only if you are looking to sell one of course. Not usually the case I am afraid. Fun gun and certainly weird enough. Same one thats on the EE?

don't buy it, get a bolt '06 from Tradex, I just got rid of my 45/70 sxs Baikal & will NOT buy another . barrel regulation is atrocious .try and get both barrels to hit within 6" of each other @ 50 yards is a joke. one trigger is set around 6lbs the other around 11 lbs & both feel like there is 2 lbs of sand packed in the trigger assembly.

Hi Broadhead, I'm new to double rifles but have been thinking about them. What I have heard is they are usually regulated for 20 to 30 yards for hunting dangerous game up close. If that's the case, it would have a hard time ever lining up at 50 yards. Or is the regulation adjustable? The triggers sound like they are awful. How much did the Baikal cost?

i recall reading they are adjustable. one barrel is fixed, and the second barrel is sighted into the POI of the first one. could be worng, never owned a double rifle. if it works like its supposed too, sounds like a neat system.

bang on Gallen , I thought it would be a decent system of regulation as well after reading about it. crap was I wrong.I paid just over a $1000.00 for the rifle. if I had paid $400.00 I still would have got rid of it & be pissed ( bear in mind I have always wanted a sxs dbl rifle ,my dad brought me up on stories of his 7 trips hunting in Africa). they realy are garbage,& it kills me to say it as its likey the only sxs I could afford. I figured out how to get a modest "10 group @ 75 yards ( where doubles are supposed to meet) & that was with the sights so far off to 1 side they were barely attached to gun still .I had to reload for each side as I could get the left /right near but the up/down was so far off.one could eventualy figure out reduced loads to get bullet drop. the barrels are soooo thin it realy is just a .410 sxs shotgun with a beef'd up reciever - dosn't make you want to shoot even a moderate load from it. Its a wall hanger and nothing else. If its dangerous game your after this will get you killed. dam rifle was like a boat - 2 happiest days , day I bought it & day I got rid of it !

Funny...I have one in 30-06 and I didn't even have to touch the sights. I fired a few shots at 25 yards with both barrels and got two similar groups on either side of the center line of the target. I wonder if the 30-06 is a better animal than the 45-70. I still have to do some more sighting and load testing, as I've only had it out once.
It was also 50% off which was why it came home with me...I don't think I would have paid full price for it.

FYI when you are looking at something you dont know about this is absolutely the best thing to do. I have Googled a number of items I was interested in and found out much more than I thought I would. Try Googling 38-55 and see how much action a "dead" cartridge gets. Lots of sites in the US that will likely shed light as the market down there is 10x our size. Still the GN site is the best and its Canadian. If it was a double maybe made by CZ or some strange British or German company then it might be a score but from what I have been told Baikal is maybe a mid range quality firearm. Dont misunderstand though there are a lot of happy Baikal users and their shotguns are surely ok but something like this is a whole ball of wax different. Amazing what you can find out just by posting. Also everybody that follows the post learns something.

My over and under 12 gauge groups pretty good with slugs out of both barrels at 40 yards no sights! (one barrel is 4" low or but center like the first barrel.) That .45-70 sounds atrocious!

Heck, the shotgun is far cheaper too! Sounds like the rifles are more money and do little more than a good old slug can. And the shotgun does double duty for small game. Now I know why I love mine so much!:D

I'm on my second one of those Baikal SxS rifles, both in .30-06, and I honestly don't know what everybody is #####ing about. Both were bought slightly used (probably after being traded in by someone who thought that they were getting a Heym or a Krieghoff for a thousand bucks) and I can't say that I didn't get my money's worth. The first one needed about 15 minutes of playing around with the adjustable barrel regulation to start printing nice 3-inch groups at 100 yards (three shots each from both barrels). Like a goof I sold it. The second one ($649 used from a shop, just a few weeks ago) took about 5 minutes to bring the barrels into perfect alignment in the vertical plane...but about 14 inches apart on that plane. Big deal...I stuck this (cheap) rifle into a vice at the breech end, grabbed the muzzle end with a heavily padded pipe wrench, and gave it a tentative crank. Three cranks and a number of test firings later, I am getting a 4-inch group at 100.

I'll never use it for a once-in-a-lifetime hunt. I'll never shoot it in competition. I'll never display it like a piece of art. SO WHAT? For $650 bucks I'm shooting and playing with a DOUBLE RIFLE! What more can you ask? I have an OU Italian double rifle that costs six times as much (which means that it is still a pretty low-priced double) and doesn't shoot as well. HELLO! I actually think that this is one of the few cases where I really got more than I paid for.

Buy the damn thing. If you don't like it, sell it and consider the money you lose as a cheap payment for an experiment that you will always wonder about otherwise. Best of luck!

Mine broke a firing pin after about 100 rounds. I also found it only liked the brass (rim thickness ) of winchester (if I remember correctly) .
I found it was not locking up competely and was tight because of that brass / chamber issue. I figure that was what caused the pin to drag in the brass and eventually broke it.

After 15 min of regulating - it shot about 3-4 inch groups with a Dr. Optic dot sight. I have never put a scope on it to see what it can do.

BTW - the pins were replaced under warranty and magically the tiggers were 3 pounds lighter! (caught it just before the warranty expired)

I think it is a great truck or bush gun - cause you can carry it open and slide in 2 shells when you jump out and it is handy in cover. Plus its shorter than a bolt etc because of the action. Two quick shots is all you need.

I use other doubles and like them and know some of their quirks (for allot more $$$)- and yes the Baikel was an experiment, but I do like it. I paid about $1000 for it and think it is a little over priced but not by much.
